/k/, what do you think the future of weapons will look like?
Small arms
Jets
Drones/robots
Ships
Armor
>>31356365
pistols and rifles that shoot rockets instead of bullets.
>>31356390
they already tried that.
>>31356365
Sleek and sexy.
>>31356390
Didn't they try that with the Gyrojet back in the 60's?
Flying carriers.
>>31356398
I always imagined the future would be like Starship Troopers and all solders would be issued 50 cal rifles
Gaint guns, but in space.
>>31356414
i freaking loved that game
go fly with the angles
>>31356551
I liked that one mission where you invaded the homeland again. (Or was that in another one?) I remember using the A-10 and wrecking (before I lurked /k/). Shit was gold.
>>31356365
Lasers on everything everywhere.
>>31356365
Future drones.
>>31356575
Would having lasers on certain platforms decrease the weight of that platform?
>>31356551
>go fly with the angels
It's DANCE with the angels you Stovie scum.
This is all for 10-20 years.
>Small arms
Guided bullets for snipers, GL's and all MG's. MG's will become dual-feed and higher calibre (15mm) and all will be used hull down with thermals and 15x zoom to snipe from kilometres away.
A switch to higher calibre munitions will be made and soldiers will carry less ammo as robotic carriers will start debuting.
>Jets
Nothing major, sensor fuzing will continu, stealth will improve even more and stand-off weapons will become even more popular. Hardkill anti missile systems will be introduced against long range AWACS killers and soon thereafter against AMRAAM/AIM-9 class missiles as well.
The notion of multi role planes will start to fade more and more. As even the attackers need to fly high and fast nowadays, only a few heavy non stealth bombers will remain and everything else will be fighter/attackers and stealth bombers.
>Drones/robots
Drones will be hidden, self reliant and lethal. They will be tasked with guarding outposts autonomously against jihadis and as CASEVAC and FSV against worthier adversaries. Expect drone light aircraft that drop munitions on call, NLOS carrying drones driving behind convoys and heavy MRAP style drones armed with autocannons driving point in convoys. The aforementioned big dog analogues will play huge roles with all kinds of infantry, even airborne. Their vulnerability to signal overrides and hacking will partially be solved with basic AI and partially with short range/behind lines operations. Since drones don't know EMCON, they will be rarely used in strikes that require adaptivity.
>Ships
Smaller, faster, heavily armed. Much like the Russian Steregushchy class. Modularity is a dead end, not usable on ships that would need weeks or months for (((module changes))) and a whole different crew to boot as well. Submarines will also play a huge role in upcoming development, silence still being key, but also underwater unmanned vehicle deployment. (UUV?)
Armor
T-14
>>31356365
>Small arms
Modern armor technology applied, small and thin capsuled penetrators.
>Jets
Faster and flying higher
>Drones/robots
Solar driven, subsonic, will work mostly as a network system.
>Ships
Partially submerged, could emerge for combat engage, retractable guns, missiles silos, etc..
>Armor
T14
>>31356575
I agree.
>>31356625
No, lasers weigh more than the equivalent conventional weapon
I wonder when VTOL will be standard issue for all jets, bombers, and transport planes across all branches
>>31356785
Probably, I wonder if they get rid of the guns altogether. I bet they would keep lasers for line-of-sight shots and missiles for long range over the horizon targets
>>31356790
One can hope.
>>31356857
ship can fly into space, vtol, future tech from future.
still loaded with hellfire missles and hydra rocket pods.
>>31356365
METAL BAWXES
>>31356909
Rule fucking One: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
>>31356365
/k/, what do you think the future of weapons will look like?
Pic related., we're all fucked.
>>31356909
Standard round is still 7.62x51mm FMJ, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
>>31356952
Wouldn't .50cal or 20-40mm just fuck those up without plot armor?
>>31356985
You don't even need that, just go around them don't even bother engaging them. Robotics and Ai is too primitive right now to make an automaton that can fight on its own
>>31357027
thats just what they want you to think.

So would:
>radiation
>power supply
>fists
>rocks
>hammers
>spears
>literally anything that smashes or pokes
Also:
>where is their R&D?
>who maintains the factories?
>who BUILT the factories?
>who mines and refines material?
>where does the power come from?
It's all bullshit, I hope they make a Robopocalypse that doesn't suck.
>>31357107
>fists
yeah naw.
>>31357170
>shove robot onto back
>curbstomp
>????
>profit
Would the battle robots have wheels/treads or legs?
>>31357185
You have seen the Terminator movies right? You'd get your arms pulled off.
>>31357199
Legs.
>>31357259
That's the whole point, Terminator is fucking dogshit handwavium trash.
IT IS THE [future time] AND HUMANITY IS ON THE BRINK OF [disaster] AND THE ONLY THING THAT CAN SAVE THE HUMAN RACE IS [hero]. BUT IN ORDER TO DO THIS HE MUST [crazy shit]
It's all the same bullshit.
Within 30 years the proliferation of mobile high powered laser weapon systems will render unarmored combat suicide.
Kinetic energy weapons will continue to play a role whenever volume or sufficient indirect fire can be managed and it won't be considered cost effective to evaporate bullets.
Missiles will become unusable because their control surfaces will get fried before they get close enough to be effective. Rockets and artillery can still useable, again volume of fire.
Planes at anything less than 3 000 meters will be burned to ash. Bombs, bombs everywhere.
Then end of the age of precision strikes and smart weapons. It will be glorious. It will be the end of all things.
>War never changes.
>War will be hell.
>>31357307
You could've summed this all up with
>meme
and it would still be read correctly
>>31357376
Yeah, but I liked my rendering of it more.
>>31357393
I will admit, it is nice flavor text.
