ArmA3 at least is set to "near future", on fictional island nation, that's adapted tons of now existing prototype gear and -ideas into realdeal combat gear. Nothing too fancy, no lasors and robots, but more organic and lightweight designs with lots of integrated tech.

why wouldn't it have a fully integrated armor system for the chest, legs and head then? It's kind of dumb that it leaves the front exposed.
>>
>>31347871
Ive said it before, but I really don't think they committed to the future setting enough. CSAT ammobearers should have had an exoskeleton(its exactly the sort of thing CSAT would field), NATO should have had some sort of UGV of their own and there should have been a hell of a lot more Airburst weapons. Vipers should have had an chink OICW rather than the thing they ended up with too.

They only briefly appeared during the vehicle escape scene with Drebin.

>>31348010
because it's just a suit, that you're meant to be able to get in and out with ease. Your personal armor already provides sufficient protection.

so they would the suit in that case.
it's not a tank replacement, merely a heavy load carrying tool with light armor capable of taking enough small-arms fire to make it usable on the battlefield.
>>
>>31348055
why not extend that light armor to the front then too? it works on the legs and head. Fully armoring it to take any kind of heavy weapons fire or exploding projectiles seems like something that should be a prerogative, especially being that vulnerable.

probably introduces weight issues, and difficulty of getting in and out of the thing.

Seriously speaking, you're not expected to survive a belt of .50 BMG in such device anyway. Might just as well use a vehicle or full mech at that point.

>Vipers should have had an chink OICW rather than the thing they ended up with too.
The type 115 doesn't make much sense desu. An assault rifle with a .50 cal on top ? Bullshit.

And the chinks cyber ninjas are a little over the top, especially their helmets. It looks like something out of Crysis.

The bluefor gear looks stale in comparison. Mostly existing stuff but the caseless weapons.

A real futuristic setup should feature programmable airburst weapons as anon said, deported fire so you can shoot while behind cover, maybe some basic exosqueletons (35 years from now is a long time after all), augmented reality headgear, etc.
>>
>>31348232
Because headshots are rare as fuck, the more pertinent concern is blunt trauma and you don't need a heavy helmet to protect from that.
>>
>>31348250
The .50 cal underbarrel thing is a bit goofy. They really kind of goofed the idea of night combat in Apex. As good as the Viper anti-thermal setups are they have no protection. Bohemia could have easily bukkaked us with cool futuristic stuff before moving onto the next ARMA.
>>
>>31348269
Sure they're statistically rare but your brain is kind of a big deal to protect. Any sort of trauma would turn someone into a vegetable, especially projectile trauma.

all around pains in the ass.

I can see lvl 3 helmets coming into the market that aren't "please God strike me down now" tier but still managing to be a pain in the ass.
>>
>>31348300
if you have some sort of neck support or overall balance support (exoskeleton or something) it wouldn't really be a problem though
>>
>>31348271
I guess stuff like airburst is "not tactical enough" (read not fun enough).
>>
>>31348250
>And the chinks cyber ninjas are a little over the top, especially their helmets. It looks like something out of Crysis.
I thought it was neat. For all the talk of CSAT being oh-so technologically advanced, the thermally-masked wetsuits with predator vision were the first time they had something that really reflected that, air conditioned BDUs notwithstanding.
>>
>>31348311
there's nothing fun about ARMA unless you fully sperg out in it or play with mods that do the simplifying Bohemia should have done from the start

please no.

I think the best engineering path would be to make those helmets as lightweight as possible with a good chinstrap system.
The ops core oct dial liner really makes the mich feel lighter and easier to work with

The only thing I see exoskeletons good for is to lug copious amounts of ammo to the field
