Literally novelty loads, they chuck out a bunch of 'sparkler'-like material, basically a very brief (but relatively large) spray of sparks comes out of the barrel, along with a few pellets too.

Some media depicts these as incendiary munitions, or 'flamethrower' cartridges, I've seen them described as producing a sustained jet of flames from the muzzle for multiple seconds, but they are nothing of this sort, they're pure pyrotechnic novelties.
Also they won't cycle in automatics.

That said, they can be a fire hazard, so you should ideally wait until after some rain before using them. Or bring a fire extinguisher.
