It's unlikely they suffered depression because every day was a struggle for survival. This is not the case in the 21st century. Young people with bodies ready for hunting, gathering, fucking, and wandering are losing their minds at an alarming rate. This is even worse for young people with no job, no sexual partners, and no family. It causes depression and sometimes insanity the same way it does with other intelligent mammals like dogs, elephants, and chimps.

Well i don't have depression, and normally id shitpost on a blogpost like this, but my gf has dealt with that sorta thing for a very, very long time, so it hits a little too close to home for me to be a dick. Even if you are wrong to post this here

I guess it depends on how severe it is. Have at least one good friend, somebody you can talk to. Try not to think negatively, or at least notice when you are and realize that your thoughts are skewed.

You presumably already have a hobby. If you don't, get one. Guns, lockpicking, programming, art, a sport (i love fencing). Antidepressants can help, but in my gfs example they didn't because she'd somehow psych herself out over them.
