In Cambodia during the Vietnam War, the NVA started training special units specifically to counter MACV-SOG. On one recon mission, a MACV-SOG Recon patrol was ambushed by this unit, who sprung out from camouflage in front of their pointman and used martial arts to take his weapon and shoot him with it point blank.
The incident is mentioned in Plaster's book. They were suspected to have been from an Airborne-trained unit
>>
>>31322547
pure speculation but the SAS conducted so many raids in WW2 that I wouldn't be surprised if they fought German SF.

South African, Rhodesians, Portuguese sometimes had to deal with communist special forces advisors like Cubans or Russians embedded with various sponsored rebel groups.
>>
According to the wikipedia page on Russian Commando Frogmen, Russian divers fought off South African divers (presumably with underwater firearms/spearguns) in Africa while running security.
>(date unknown): Soviet frogmen protected a USSR trade commission who were visiting a place on the coast of Africa. They saw, fought against and drove off a group of six or eight South African combat frogmen in an underwater battle. There were no deaths.
If this is true, then it is badass.

I always imagined it with the Soviets carrying those funky underwater firearms (APS underwater rifles and SPP-1 underwater pistols) and wearing full wetsuits like in this picture (these dudes are in the fucking Arctic Ocean). I imagine the Saffers as wearing those 70s wetsuits that with short sleeves and short legs, carrying spearguns. It's a cool thought.

There was quite a lot of conflict between SASR, some SBS and SAS against the As Saiqa Republican Guard division in western Iraq in 2003
The Iraqi's put up a fairly fierce fight when contacted and where quite aggressive in trying to locate them- they did suffer extremely badly though in terms of losses. Lot of the survivors ended up as insurgents after the Iraq defeat and disbandment, so they where quite a motivated force.
>>
>>31325354
Considering Russia denies they're anywhere in Ukraine I think it's pretty reasonable to believe the Ukrainian reports.

This is straight up wrong.Soviet GRU was formed before WW II. Soviets had SOF in the Spanish Civil War, see "Ilya Starinov".

US also had Rangers pretty early on in one shape or another.

Quite possibly the worst decision of your life. I just discussed earlier this week with army officer that has served in OCEF motoring mission in Ukraine for years. Here are few things that he told about the situation:
1. Ukrainian volunteer units in general are very poorly equipped and trained. Azov Battalion supposedly has bit better reputation than most, but considering the opposite side is partially elite Russian units playing dress-up up, not an easy battle.
2. There is huge number of volunteers (both Ukrainians and foreign) being indicted for crimes in Ukraine at the moment - with charges reaching from invented bullshit and petty crime to war crimes.
3. Ukrainian Army is both incompetent and corrupt. Hence there have also been numerous cases in which volunteer units have been sent like lamb to slaughter.
4. At both sides of frontline the place is a corrupt shithole and massive humanitarian disaster. Only difference being that on government side they are at least claiming to try doing something on it.

If you go anyway, make sure that your name, contact info and info about your next of kin do not get listed in too many documents. There was a case in which name list of volunteer unit was apparently sold to separatists, after which separatists started making them calls "we know who you and what you are doing - do as we demand or we will sent guys to cut throats of your relatives that are back home".

The Rangers and SEALs allegedly squared off against Cuban special forces during the Invasion of Grenada. "Allegedly" because even though there was a large Cuban presence in the country and they did fight the US, the jury is out on whether they were all soldiers or civil engineers that were handed AKs because of Castro's partisan-boner.

Doesn't count, fucking "Black Crane" - GRU walked them so bad it's not even funny. Also, Paki SOF =/= significant country SOF. This is only sort of relevant but during the Korean war the "North Korean MIG" 15s would preform strafing runs on downed MIG pilots shot down outside of their territory or in the ocean so that the Americans wouldn't discover a Russian pilot in a North Korean marked MIG. Soviet meddling with the use of gifted equipment, advisors pilots, sf, ect wasn't unheard of but never official as they where "neutral". So the possibility of US SF engaging Soviet SF in Vietnam, Korea, or other proxy wars is a possibility if never officially confirmed.
