Do we have any new info about that French army new standard rifle competition?

Is it true that HK 416 and SCAR are the only ones left?
>>
The HK 416 won.

They say it did the best in drop testing.

>do not cut canopy within 3 inches of canopy frame

Did they have a problem with people doing this?
>>
>>31310199
I think its for when people crash and get stuck and the door refuses to open, and then they get a shit ton of guys to cut the thing open with these huge saws
>>
>>31310238
This makes sense.

I was going to say, "unauthorized personnel will be shot" would be a bit more snappy if you just have random people coming at it with a box cutter.
>>
>>31310238
>>31310260
the reason is there are explosives for jettisoning the canopy around the frame
>>
So why did they go with a non-bullpup rifle? Was it just because the SCAR and 416 were more available or something?
>>
>>31310185

because the refugees are more familiar in handling AK's and not much bullpups.

Because memepups don't make good service rifles.

god damn the voice i read that with was perfect
>>
>>31310149
One thing is for sure, the FAMAS is a horrible rifle. Probably the worse major service rifle in the last 4 decades barring the poo the loos shit.

Modularity and accessories.

>>31313943
Nah, you're full of shit.

Or not.
>>
>>31310149
H&K won.
The already issued 416 and 417 are going standard in many SF units. The already issued SCAR are going into a small specialised unit linked to DGSE, especially combat divers.

>>31310185
Wrong, Beretta and the Humbert company (french equipment seller) are suing. FNH already have problems to deliver the 10 thousand mag58s the french army ordered.

>>31313000
Because after decades of using the famas the french army had all the time it takes to figure out bullpups are shit.

>>31313943
It's not though. It's a very accurate 5.56, well balanced, simple enough mecanically, not prone to jamming with the good ammo, and rugged enough to fire heavy rifle grenades with as much explosive as a fucking M72 LAW in it, namely the AC58.

Other than that yes controls are shit, reciprocating charging handle is shit, bigass carry handle is shit, non-USGI compatible magwell on the F1, awkward safe semi burst full controls, no modernisation to include picatinny rails except through additionnal parts, useless high firing rate, kinda mushy trigger because bullpup, ambidextrous through easy swapping of ejection port mechanism though not on the go, and cases ejecting very fast which may hurt you because delayed blowback.

Turning the Famas into a fine rifle is perfectly possible though, but not relevant in 2016.

However its general layout was an inspiration for several weapons manufacturers, latest being HS produkts with VHS 1 and 2.

The design choices made to build the Famas weren't good enough, that is true. The rifle is more of an engineer wet dream than a soldier's firearm, that is true. Is it a piece of shit like insas ? No, certainly not. Fuck you.

The thing our dear socialists are widely renowned for : surrender and collaborate ;)

It's interesting to note though that Germany has specific laws banning the sales of weaponry to countries engaged in a war. Better hope that we never get into one then.
>>
>>31315652
That's why H&K had to sold the machines to make G3s and MP5s :')

Ca va être drôle.
>>
>>31315652
You really need a reality check. Socialists are no more responsible of the defeat, surrender and collaboration than the right-wingers and conservationists. "Maréchal, nous voilà !" and so on.

Want to blame someone for the defeat ? How about the inept staff officers who fought the ways wars were fought did not change since 1918 ?

Blah blah blah , stop defending this pile of crap rifle. The FAMAS would jam all the time and it would fall apart since the French government never bought new rifles. It wasn't all due to design, the French just can't make a good rifle overall.
>>
>>31317101
And that's coming from your vast experience shooting one, right?
>>
>>31317125
I personally knew some FFL but granted they did get the hand me down FAMASs. It was them who complained about FAMAS. They were happy if they could just get it to fire.
>>
>>31317147
>hand me down FAMAS

Oh, you dumb moron
>>
>>31317154
He means hand me down rifls when he was still in the FFL

Of course they don't work, they've been all beat to shit for 40 years and their blowback design won't work with SS109 because the round wasn't even invented yet when the rifle was adopted
>>
>>31317154
FFL means French foreign legion in this case

There are explosives in the frame to blow up the canopy in case it gets stuck during emergency ejection. The cutting could set them off.

Doesn't matter komrades. FAMAS is destined for scrap pile.

>>
>>31317176
>Tell me how I am wrong and the FFL are not trashing their beloved FAMAS for good reason
They're dumping it because it's old and limited interoperability, depending on how old it is.
The original design has nothing to do with it.

Also the Famas is still very much used, only particular units have switched to something else.

>Because after decades of using the famas the french army had all the time it takes to figure out bullpups are shit.
Wrong. The commies in running France shut down MAS. Not to mention the G2 that the Navy uses solved all of the issues, if the the French weren't a bunch of fucking poor fags, they'd would of have their other branches equipped with it.
>>
>>31319297
MAS had been merged with GIAT, and GIAT seriously needed to be shut down though, it was your typical union-led state company with workers protesting 6 months a year to earn more money while working less hours. They are the reason why the Leclerc ended up becoming the most expensive tank in history, and the FAMAS G2 probably became the most expensive assault rifle as well.
This is what happens when a company has the monopoly on something : they drive up the cost at will.
