Well, what the fuck /k/?

i stopped looking for a scar 17 for the past two years while i worked a shit job. now i have a new job and they are literally impossible to find for MSRP.

what the fuck is FN doing?

are they REALLY that popular or is the scar being treated like .22lr and being swept up by all the gougers with no fucking job right off the truck?

is every single order of FDE scar 17's already spoken for?

why cant i find one for less that 1k over msrp? i dont wanna buy used because i'm not fucking retarded or poor.

if any one has any insight into the situation i'd appreciate it. at this point i'll almost jump on anything thats around 3500.

im about to just rage and fucking buy a ballista.

dont make me do it /k/

>are they REALLY that popular

>gun ownership at all time high
>this includes filthy rich faggots that buy Audemur and Cartier watches for fun because Rolex is for plebs
>when they ask gun store guys what the best rifle that the special forces guys use they wind up snatching up all the SCARs and HK MR556/MR762s they can find

It's like you're new to conspicuous consumption.
>>
>>31309872
Or they're just between import cycles and FN is focusing in their military contracts...

Na, let's go with your idea.
>>
>>31309818
FNH hasn't been producing or importing as many, most places have been out of stock or selling off their last of stock since around spring.
Not sure what the deal is at FNH, but that's the reason on top of election season approaching and prices gradually climbing/stock slowly dwindling.

Kind of regretting not buying a 16 for $2,300 back in early 2015 when I had the chance, too late now...

The only all U.S. made SCARs are in SOCOM/JSOC hands.
16s/17s are still imported from Belgium in sporter config and then get converted to compliance in SC.

I used to never give a shit about Scar 17's because 'eh, too expensive and .308 is too expensive but when some dude let me shoot his 17 with a Geissele trigger a couple times. I was blown away from the little recoil it had.

They're incredible rifles. Probably the most advanced combat rifle on the market today alongside the KAC SR15.
>>
>>31310008
The sad thing is that recoil that pushes forward to make it very short winds up crushing less expensive optics internals into sand.

>The sad thing is that recoil that pushes forward to make it very short winds up crushing less expensive optics internals into sand.

To be fair, if I owned a $2,500 rifle that shoots .308 semi auto, I would use a higher end optic like a Night Force or US Optic. That recoil system is something else.

Doesn't the FAL have a reputation of battering optics as well?

FN has always delivered commercial rifles in batches with long durations in between shipments.

This periodic dry spell is nothing new. It's only recently cause for panic due to the impending election and increased demand for the rifle itself.

At least we can still get mags this time.

I remember five years ago feeling like I'd won the lottery after finding a gunshow dealer with 17S mags for less than $70.

Same for the original Geiselle triggers when they first released.

No. Brick and mortar MSRP used to run $27-2800. FN mil/leo pricing on 17S was $2500. There has always been reasonable demand for them and the market price simply fluctuates with supply.

>military contracts are awarded on the basis of a manufacturers ability to deliver

I don't see anyone in this thread to include myself that is suggesting it isn't a factor. However, what you seem unable to comprehend is there are several other and often times much more significant factors that are weighed in the decision.

KAC, DD, LWRC, LMT, etc. all have the capability to produce the amount of weapons in the time period specified in the CSASS solicitation. They wouldn't have bid had that not ben the case. And yet still, none of those rifles were chosen.
>>
>>31312436
>KAC, DD, LWRC, LMT, etc. all have the capability to produce the amount of weapons in the time period specified in the CSASS solicitation.

citation needed

also, what is contractually obligated armory support. FNH is the only builder on that list who produces everything in house, everyone else is forced to depend on third parties.
>>
>>31309872

>Heckler & Koch Defense Inc., Ashburn, Virginia, was awarded a $44,500,000 firm-fixed-price contract with options for Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System spare parts, training, and government purpose rights. Bids were solicited via the Internet with eight received with an estimated completion date of March 30, 2022. Funding and work location will be determined with each order. Army Contracting Command, Picatinny Arsenal, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-16-D-0051)

You obviously have zero understanding of how government procurement works. These solicitations are always inclusive of training, support and follow on contracts.
>>
>>31312061
Please kill yourself
>>
>>31312436
>And yet still, none of those rifles were chosen.

No doubt that FNH being able to deliver the cheapest per-unit bid because of economies of scale and their guarantee of long-term in house support had nothing to do with them being awarded the contract.

Not one bit.
>>
>>31312550
>cites the one manufacturer that can remotely compete with FNH on scale

You obviously have no idea how manufacturing and scaling works.
>>
>>31312565

Except they didn't actually win. Pls kill yourself.
>>
>>31312591
>being this bad at reading comprehension
>>
>>31312582

I cited the contracting official (not HK) which specified that logistical support, spare parts and training were included in the solicitation for the CSASS rifle.

Every one of the bidding companies tendered a product and price to meet those requirements and you continue to imply that KAC, DD, LMT etc were incapable of doing so.
>>
>>31311619
>>31311673
Wouldn't be so sure.
When they first came to market, I had a chance to get in on a group buy for $1700.
I passed because I didn't know anything about them.
(P.S. it was some promotional thing that FN did with a few of their customers)
I think it was sold at a loss to help generate hype
>>
>>31312604
>thinks FN won the CSASS
>>
>>31309818

You waited too long faggot.

Scalia is dead and your only hope of getting one is if Hillary doesn't become president.
>>
>>31312662
>missed the part about HK being the only other company on the list who can match FNH on manufacturing
>>
>>31312934
>missed the part where it doesn't even matter

Again, and for the last time, every bidding manufacturer was able to meet the required production and delivery requirements for the solicitation in question or they wouldn't have submitted in the first place.

It doesn't matter if HK/FN can produce 400,000 rifles a year and KAC only 40K because the contract only stipulated 4K to be delivered.

I'll remind you that Sig and Remington submitted bids as well. So long as the manufacturer is capable of producing and supporting the number of rifles required, that box gets checked and isn't looked at again. Instead the evaluation moves on to more important factors such as weapon performance and total price of the bid.

The bottom line is that KAC, LMT, Remington, LWRC, DAE and every other contestant including FN were eliminated based on the merits of their rifle rather than their ability to mass produce them.
