Go to a range and rent. Years ago I was toying with buying a USP when I turned 21 until I shot one, then I found I really didn't like it. Ended up getting a PX4 because of how it felt in my hand, when it wasn't even on my radar before the range trip. The 9mm hammer fired pistol market is very much mature, with lots of decent guns around a similar price point competing with each other.
Sig isn't a bad company overall, but they've been slipping. I've found their SP2022 to be very passable and a nice pistol, much more reliable than the newer P226s I've shot.

I have a p226 MK25 and a USP 45c. I like both, but my MK25 fits better in my hand than the USP does. I shoot my MK25 better because of its ergonomics, and it holds 18+1 rounds with my Mec-gar mags. I OWB carry it when I hike and hunt.
