If you don't live in the city it's a simple as going to a store finding one you like filling out a background check. Most do it online now it takes five minutes if your not a felon your fine then you pay and leave with the gun.

If you want a m1 garand like pictures I would take a trip to the cmp store in Ohio. I got one for 650 a few years back.

Despite what I say most users in here will tell you to buy some .22
Also keep in mind guns in oddball calibers like .303 or 7.5x55 are a lot harder to come by and we can't buy ammo online anymore here in New York.
