/k/ I'm trying to get into guns I've got a budget of about 500 USD what's a good gun to start with, something fun/easy and easy to maintain

What kind of shooting do you want?

Tacticool? Long range/precision? Hunting? Pistols for the range? Pistol for self defense?

C'mon man.
>>
>>31166714
Something be tacticool on the range mostly

If you're going to do a pistol, start off with a full-frame. 9mm is fun and ammo is cheap. Go used.
>>
You probably want a HK Mark 23, it ticks all those boxes.
>>
>>31166747
You need more money. You can build a decent entry AR for maybe $500ish. You can buy an entry level AR for about $600-700.

Then you need targets, cleaning kit, earplugs, etc. One time cost, but needs to be factored.

But THEN, you need to start thinking about ammo costs. Ammo is where this hobby fucking murders your wallet.
>>
>>31166695
ruger 10/22 pick the one you like the look of the most. Buy an extra mag or two and a big box of ammo if you can find it.
>>
>>31166763
If I can get more or less everything I need; gun tacticool stuff targets and a deece amount of ammo of a grand then I can make it work
>>
>>31166782
you need to give us more to go on. What guns do you really like? Have you shot guns before? Are you in a commie state?
>>
>>31166794
I live in rural Indiana and my only gun experience is hunting with a k98 or something like it and a few different .45 pistols
>>
>>31166782
You won't get it all for $500 in one pass.

Check armslist and wait for a decent deal. There are a LOT of hucksters out there, but you can get lucky and find a decent used, good condition gun for a reasonable price. Just be patient and don't get bullied into buying.

Buy your ammo in bulk. It cost more upfront, but will be cheaper per round.
>>
Thanks guys shits been pretty helpful
Headed to a huge gun show in October is there any surplus rifles worth picking up

Get a 1911 in 9mm. Or .45 for the full experience, although ammo will cost double. Rock Island Armory is good for beginners due to their lifetime warranty, which can be used for mundane things such as spring changes.

Just don't get anything too tiny or weird, you want a large/heavy gun with low or moderate recoil. It is easier to train your coordination without bad habits getting burnt in.

Dry fire practice is an invaluable tool, and for that reason I would avoid Glocks or other striker fired pistols (you would have to rack the slide for each trigger pull).
>>
>>31166862
Is it good for a cc gun?
>>
>>31166853
In my experience, gunshows aren't so great. The vendors tend to be very aggressive in trying to get you to commit to buying without letting you think about it.

I'd definitely recommend having a list of what you want, along with the prices you want, and features you want in mind before going. Don't let a dealer overprice you and walk away if there is too much BS.
>>
>>31166876
Go to a range (I think some require you bring a buddy to prove you aren't an hero) and rent a variety of guns.

Some people swear by guns that other people loath. I can't personally stand 1911s. Some people can't shoot any handgun but a 1911.
>>
>>31166878
I'll be going along with some much more experienced guys to help me find some shit I'm mostly going to get more bulk flairs
>>
>>31166876
I carry them all the time, for most people it's probably too heavy to CC regularly though. It's nice and thin, which is great if you want a full size firearm that doesn't print.
>>
Is a sks some extra shit ie optic mount cheap optic and a bit of bulk ammo worth nearly 500 bucks?
>>
>>31166958
How much bulk ammo? What extra shit? What kind of SKS?
>>
>>31166964
A Yugoslavian one which he'll sell me on its own for 400 and its about 50 rounds all on clips
>>
>>31166964
I'm not sure exactly what the extra shit is other then it's am accessory mount and a cheap optic
>>
>>31166695
Surplus Makarov. Spend what's left of the cash on hookers and blow.
>>
>>31167002
I like this suggestion a lot
>>
>>31166766
ignore .22lr retards

>>
>>31166695
Buy a PSA build kit. They can be had for ~$400.
Buy Anderson stripped lower for ~$50

Holy shit

I just read this whole thread. This whole thread may have convinced OP to waste his money on something he didnt ask for.
You all trolled OP and steered him away from doing the sensible thing and just getting a p226 or a g19 or a vp9.
I'm actually shocked, this is the first time /k/ has gone completely retarded.
>>
>>31167108
I didn't. I told him to get a full-frame 9mm. It doesn't get any more sensible than that.
>>
>>31167108
Don't worry I haven't made any real decisions yet
>>
Get a lever action in 357
Cheap to shoot.
Good to learn with

I'm broke as shit and want a bolt action rifle.
Is the Savage Axis a good deal?
>>
Budget of around 600 dollars and I was looking at a Marlin 336 as a first gun. Wanted a gun that I could buy for fun on the range and eventually, when I get better at shooting, hunting. Are the QC issues still really bad? I've read they've gotten better.
>>
>>31168028
The qc is still very iffy
If you can find one made before 2007 id get it, but would not reccomend a new one.
