Since there seems to be no magazine spring, I'm going to assume that the two ribs running down the magazine are the launcher's feed mechanism.

Theread appears to be a camera on the backpack which I'll assume I'd some form of targeting pod. If I'm not mistaken these models are from either Great Crusade or Horus Heresy, which would explain why such a targeting pod would be absent in M41. The rest of the backpack is presumably the standard powersource and ammunition stowage that Astartes heavy weapons sections always roll with.

If there were any purpose for it, I'd explain it as an adjustable gas system that can be opened to reduce recoil and closed to minimize dust and over pressure in cluttered and enclosed firing positions.

Its nothing. It would look visually imbalanced and front heavy if there was nothing behind the rear grip, so they added an extension out the back. You just do yourself a mischief if you put more thought into 40k than the designers ever did.

Besides being a powerpack and jet to keep the SPESS MERINEZ's armor standing and functioning, I suspect those cameras are range finders, assuming there isn't already one installed in the helmet. Either that or for a machine spirit to help guide the rockets. Also those rods look like radio antennas, maybe for the "machine spirit" to guide the missiles (this is a guess, I don't know the fluff).

Also, what do you think would happen if there were Catachan space marines. Would it be like the Raptors (space marine chapter, not the Chaos freaks).

It really depends. It is depicted that not all Marines are the same, and that they do inherit a lot of traits from their homeworld/life on it. However yes, the hypno-indoctrination should make them at least have the knowledge of and the muscle memory necessary to not look like utter savages.

One good example of what we're talking about is the Blood Angels. Baal isn't a great place, and it's home to rough people struggling to live. However, the Blood Angels themselves are much more cultured than that past life would lead you to expect.
