That's a nice historic gun, and so I hesitate to make comparisons, but it sounds like you'll be using it for home defense, not just a collector's piece, so I can't help but make the comparison to what I would do in the US (Florida specifically):
1) Go to local pawn shop or gun store
2) Pick out handgun of choice. Used decent revolver maybe $200-$300, used decent autoloader about $100 more. Add another $100 or so for new. So, for about 450 euros, pretty much anything I want as long as I'm not getting too fancy.
3) Present ID, answer question that I'm not a felon/drunk/crazy/pothead/wifebeater on form 4473 and have them verify it in about 5 minutes.
4) Grab a box of 50 cartridges for about $25, or maybe twice that for tactical super-hyper hollowpoint shredder ammo with polymer tips and such.
5) Walk out to my car, load it and put it in my center console, go home, stand in my front yard and shoot at some cans (or, if I happen to live in town, go out to a friend's house who has a few acres.)

If I don't have a concealed weapons permit, I have to add one more step - wait three days to come back and pick up the gun. Supposedly keeps people from doing impulsive stuff.

The united states health care is very fantastic! I have to this date never received the bill for someone else. Often in my home country, I would receive many bills for other people, people who do drugs, have gay sex aids, and other bad things. I would often have to pay for these peoples medical. It was terrible, I protested! But they did not care, they kept sending me these peoples bills and demand I pay or jail! If you're interested in purchasing a rifle, I'd really recommend Sako's 85 series of rifles. I have no idea how widespread they are outside of Scandinavia, but they are fantastic rifles and fairly cheap at the same time. I paid around 3500 euros for one in .338 lapua, and that is not the cheapest one by a long shot.
