Where did this meme originate? It's in almost every character design for anyone who carries a large machine gun or grenade/rocket/missile launcher.

Wouldn't they be wearing the same armor as everyone else, or even less since they're carrying so much other crap and would typically be firing from cover and staying hunkered behind a wall with their heavy weapon, as opposed to other infantry who would be a lot more mobile and less clingy to cover?

Unless they use their natural gifts to lift some armor to go with it.

This isn't even that strange of a concept irl. Swat units and counter terrorists groups wear armor like a mother fucker because they deal with small arms and have such a tactical advantage in overwhelming numbers, firepower etc.

But if you are referring to straight up warfare then yes its good to go light as the ranges and caliber go dramatically up and the biggest or strongest (not alwaus the same) guys in SOF and light infantry units are the ones lugging the most shit like antitank weapons, mgs, etc. The elite units not the ones conventional units that troll the new guys with the biggest guns on patrol.

Well for swat or police units they got a LOT of extra coverage (or the turret gunners on convoys) and some even have shields.

The other guys engage while the guy with the armor and heavy weapon suppresses the target.

However in video games most of thr characters have health bars, meaning the big guys with heavy armor are basically damage sponges for muh difficulties.

I'm saying for video games they give them more dakka because the developers are noguns who think guns are light or that the characters are some superhuman.
