On an individual basis people in the US aren't better off than people in many other western nations. Based on factors like the ease of upward mobility through the economic classes, and the like. As a whole the US is the most successful, that's true, but in the way that actually matters most to the American people, it isn't.

The simple fact that our economic system is a hybrid is what makes it work better than either pure communism and pure capitalism, btw. Though some people seem to love the idea of living in an an-cap corporate oligarchy as much as others love a conformist socialist state.

He wanted the USA to be seen as a real country, and to be a real country you need a real army. At the time, having a real army meant having a army that fought using conventional tactics.

He definitely did not want everyone to see american army as nothing but a bunch of ragtag guys cowardly attacking the british force from a forrest.

The two sides during the rev war were generally close. Averaging around 50 yards or so (smoothbore muskets firing round ball is not the most accurate thing ever made).
While yes the American forces had some rifled muskets, there was far from enough to make a difference in anything but a skirmish. So most battles where fought close enough that one side could charge the other before there was a chance to reload.

Then once the French started to arm the rebels they used what they had on hand, more smoothbore muskets.

I'm as red-blooded American as the next guy and love hearing about how the American militia would pick off British groups from 200yrds away but I also know those stories are only from the early revolution, when the army consisted of only militia and the British did not take the rebels seriously.
