Yeah, it was pretty damned /k/, especially the sneaking around in an open world, that felt Rambo and The Delta Force as fuck.

Unless Ubisoft somehow manages to not fuck up Wildlands, it's the closest thing to a AAA oper8or simulator you'll get. Too bad they don't make a game like it without all the silly shit.

I still get kind of pissed about the supernatural elements of MGS, but they've been around for as long as the S has been, so whatever. It's a problem I've always had.

They're always great games, though.

I love the core gameplay to death.

>Found an Afghaniland outpost today, sneak up. 5 guys. 5 headshots with the frankenrifle, one to the next in less than a second. No !'s. Felt like god.
>>

Sadly it's Ubisoft, something WILL happen to fuck everything up.
>>
>>31042352

You get a few camo paterns to start. It's pretty good. There are situations where the sneaking suit is appropriate, but mostly in bigger industrial structures or bases like in GZ.

As you develop new camos, there's not real benefit I can FEEL, but they look fucking sweet and may or may not work well. Can't really tell. I'm a cover over concealment player.

Only MGSV has franken guns. The rest had real ones. 4 really let you closely examine them and had a good variety of both common and obscure guns. Atleast in 5, the guns are loosely based on real ones like the not-ak and not-fnc. It's probably the most operator game out there since there are so many ways to play and little details that most other games never consider. Knocking over items and making noise, cigarettes revealing lasers, eating hot ramen increasing Snake's temperature, guns sometimes jamming, the small but often very clever puzzles, they're all cool things to see. Sneaking in and out and completing missions perfectly is one of the most satisfying video game feelings out there.

I've heard 3 different reasons. Either that, Kojima doesn't want to pay gun makers for some faggy moral reason, or that they had some deal with TM to make airshit.

In game it's kinda hand-waved as "Diamond Dogs can develop their own shit" but it's probably Kojima's fault.

Yeah I have no idea what was going on with the metal gears in 5. There's a very clear progression from the previous games and then here comes this fuckin Gundam of a mech
>>
>>31046077
It was something incapable of moving. So then the Rex came in and became a thing.
But since they added a 2 spoopy element, they made it work not because of physics but because psycho mantis became buddy with liquid and helped him play with his new transformer.
It's a awesome figure and once I'm wealthy enough I'll buy the 400€ model.
>>
>>31046052
Not really. That thing is a very flawed prototype, it looks impressive but has a ton of design flaws which would be fixed when REX comes around.
>>
>>31042331

I hope they don't, but it's Ubisoft. Their track record is far from impeccable. Future Soldier's core-gameplay was fairly operator, so I'm hoping it's close enough to that.
>>
>>31044409

I always figured it was for the modularity of it all, ya know? If they'd stuck solely to real guns, they might not mesh as well, so they cobbled together their own shit up that would.
>>
>>31044409
Nah, Kojima just didn't think real guns looked very good chopped up and mashed together with the new weapon customization system.

>>
>>31047938

>>
>>31047938
>or the Rain Forest or something?
One of the game's two maps is in South Africa, and they did a good job of making the terrain vary wildly within the zones without making it look like World of Warcraft
>>
>>31044409
Because he actually had a huge problem with the PW gun constraints. A lot of weapons used in that game weren't yet developed at that time IRL, and it sperged his tism hard. I did have a problem with the weapons system in MGSV
>Having the useless option to modify the magazines the gun uses
>Halfway through the game every soviet switches to 7.62x51 rifles for no apparent reason
>AKs using 5.56
>Having a round in the chamber does nothing (forced reload at one round remaining)
>The worst by FAR is the inventory system. Categorizing weapons classes to either a hip or back slot, severely limiting your loadout and combination options. Your only hope if you want to run a rifle/shotgun loadout is to use underbarrel shotguns (one of which is a fucking double barrel)
>>
>>31047938
Africa had some light forest/jungle settings. The game should have had an urban expanse in my opinion, a third area mainly set in a dense urban area.
>>
>>31048051
Unless we're going "ghost town that became an enemy base" mode, I don't think it would be that good. It would feel like a GTA where walking funny gives you a 15+ star alert across all continents because you just so happen to be a person wanted by an Illuminati-esque organization that runs the world.
If anything, I miss the snow.
>>
>>31048093
I get that, and i also miss the cold settings. But I still think maybe being covert in some combloc city, with no access to support would be great. At the end of the day it wouldnt work though, not with how the game ended up turning out. If snake wasn't the army killing bullet sponge he was, it'd be a different story.
>>
>>31048118
I mean, I did like the tailing section of MGSIV on the first time around, but I have a feeling that doing that over and over would get boring. But if they had a city that was mostly factories, it would be another story. That would be rad to sneak around in.
>>
The only problem I had with the game is how same-y everything felt by the end. Only 2 zones and you're constantly assaulting the same few areas over and over with just the enemies types changing.

Basically, with the old games being linear, they were able to design the enemy layout and levels around the gameplay to make some interesting scenarios that complimented the overall experience. With MGS5, there isn't much of a difference when raiding a base for the 4th time to do a story mission or secondary objective besides the fact there might be a walker or ghost guy this time around.

Also, there's a lot of interesting ideas that become pretty worthless after the novelty wears off. The artillery is a waste of time when you can just sleep-snipe every one in ten seconds, the vehicles are only really useful for going from point a-b, why even bother with all the mines and traps when you can run up and rocket punch people faster and easier.

The game was fucking great, though, one of my favorites, but I think it falls under MGS3 and MGS:TTS in the hierarchy of MGS games.
>>
>>31046077
>>31047178
I think one of the central themes of MGSV was "There was always something more going on behind the curtain"

MGSV lets us behind the curtain with the ridiculous super-tech for once, but then again, the story might not have even taken place, considering we're playing as a brain damaged crazy person
>>
>>31048168
I guess Ii'll add to what you said, but I just didn't like the Motherbase this time. I thought I could, like, design my own shit in the layout I want. Also it just didn't looking as pretty as the one in PW, where all the base cells were closely packed and felt more like a proper HQ than 5 miles of walkway betwen each platform.
Which I guess makes sense from a defense point of view, as it's harder to assault, but it felt kinda meh.
>>
>>31048168

Oh and last but not least, in terms of story, the ending served to do nothing but piss me off. They played it up like this was going to be Naked Snake turning into Big Boss, but no not really you're just some random asshole and the whole thing was kinda pointless because the real Big Boss has been fucking around somewhere else and none of this really connects to the MG games.

On top of that, it confers the idea that literally anybody can have Big Boss' skills and abilities when he's supposedly the greatest soldier ever. Kinda cheapens his and his sons legacy if some random medic can operate at the same level after being in a coma for 10 years.
>>
>>31042137
If I could change my skin to my MP character or a rhodesian PMC I'd like it more
>>
>>31048210

Motherbase, the concept, was cool but the execution was kinda lame. I explored all over and except for fucking with the guards the whole thing felt kinda empty and pointless. There's some cool knickknacks to pick up, but I wanted the easter eggs that Metal Gear is known for.
>>
>>31048220
>If I could change my skin to my MP character or a rhodesian PMC I'd like it more
Beat the game and you can
>>
>>31048216
>They played it up like this was going to be Naked Snake turning into Big Boss

That's literally the ending of Snake Eater. Big Boss by the time of Peace Walker is not different to what he is in MG1.

>On top of that, it confers the idea that literally anybody can have Big Boss' skills and abilities when he's supposedly the greatest soldier ever.

Christ, have you even played these games? Literally the entire message of MGS1, 2 and 3 is that Les Enfants Terribles was total bullshit and the genes don't matter. They directly give the player the message that any man can become like Big Boss in the right context and under the right conditions, and that there was never inherently anything special about him. MGSV carried on the series-long tradition of that theme by doing the most literal interpretation of it: The player literally becomes Big Boss.
>>
>>31048242

I might have poorly explained myself. I meant the evolution of Big Boss from a sorta morally grey "freedom fighter"/gun-for-hire looking for a home for him and his mercenaries to the "bad guy" Solid Snake fights in MG. I understand that at the end of MGS3 Naked Snake adopts of the moniker of Big Boss, but his motivations aren't really 1:1 to the Big Boss we see in MG. I didn't play Peace Walker or the other mobile one, so I'm only going by what I saw in 3/4/5.

I'll conceded on your second point, that is a pretty literal interpretation of events, but I was talking more about how all we're given is a throwaway line about how great the medic is and then bam now he can reliably imitate Big Boss enough to be his doppleganger. Though, Kojima has always done things in own unique way, so maybe I'm just expecting too much.
>>
>>31048216
You are the final enemy from metal gear 1 (not mgs1)
>>
>>31048351

I know, that's why I said MG and not MGS.
>>
>>31048230
So it does connect to the original mg, by explaining how big boss dies in mg 1 and is yet in mgs4
>>
>>31048317
>I might have poorly explained myself. I meant the evolution of Big Boss from a sorta morally grey "freedom fighter"/gun-for-hire looking for a home for him and his mercenaries to the "bad guy" Solid Snake fights in MG

Peace Walker pretty much handles that transferral. In Peace Walker, you build a nation state of cuthroat mercenaries, build a technologically advanced super weapon, recruit children into your army, and horde nuclear weapons. Which is exactly what BB does in MG1/2, except it doesn't seem that way in Peace Walker since you're seeing it from his perspective, in which you are a band of jolly freedom fighters.

>but I was talking more about how all we're given is a throwaway line about how great the medic is and then bam now he can reliably imitate Big Boss enough to be his doppleganger.

In canon, the Medic was whoever your best soldier in Peace Walker was, similarly, he was given subliminal training and memory implantation during his coma. His skills improving and matching the "legend" are masked as him recovering from his coma, which is mentioned by several characters (his skills are rusty etc.). In terms of meta story, the player is already as experienced as Big Boss since you've been Snake as long as Snake has been around.
>>
>>31048230
Yeah but do you get to use your mp oper8er gear or just the gay DD shit
>>
>>31048425

DD shit. Which is so fucking stupid. it wouldn't be that hard to add all the cool combat gear and masks, hell even a Ghille suit would be nice. It's bullshit.
>>
>>31048393

I see. I didn't know that. I missed Peace Walker entirely and the other handheld one, so I apologize for being foggy on the details.

With Kojima's storytelling, it's hard to just read a wiki page and get a full grasp of what's going on.
>>
>>31048483
Fuck, ah well, wonder how hard it is to find the models for different less important NPCs, I dont wanna play as quiet or miller, I wanna be a short shorts wearing, fal using PMC
But yeah, stupid shit as you say I bet they could have easy given use to just use our mp characters actual gear when we use then in sp
>>
>>31047300
People always shit on Future Soldier for its removal of squad commands and some of the silly future shit, but I had alot of fun with its core gameplay. The semi-on rails breaching and escort sequences were well done, mark & execute worked the best it has in any Clancy game, the movement and cover were alot tighter than what they were in GRAW, the gunsmith system was great.

I get where you're coming from. I've got my Rhodie set up, with my FAL, .45 & an M40 on my back, but it just doesn't feel right without the tiny shorts and caps.

Oh, and why did we never get the option to use Skullface's Mare's leg. I realise it's not tactical at all, but wheel and lever guns make me diamonds.
>>
>>31048638

Yeah, if you approach it as just a Third Person shooter, it's a pretty good game. Gunsmith was probably where I spent 90% of my time, and the mark and execute made it so fun to ghost through levels.
>>
>>31042137
this is by a landslide the least /k/ MGS game in the series.
>>
>>31048393
Not that guy BUT....
I take issue with a lot the game has in the way of its story telling. Too much of it is Big Boss seeing things happen around him, there wasnt a lot of him laying down wisdom as a great leader would (except in one cut scene where he makes his guy stab him).
I wanted to see BB grow into a monster, see how he became Ocelots best friend and how he became enemies with Miller. Instead we get audio tapes and the Phantom. They could have developed Liquid a bit more or just left him out entirely rather than the massive gap in story when the metal gear flys away.
Oh and the fucking story should have ended at some point. Killing Skullface would have been a great place to end, a bit short, but an ending is better than just "here go replay main missions and here are a bunch of side missions" which would be fine if there wasnt a giant hole in the story.
When we got to Africa I was thinking we would develope a base there and set the ground work for Solid Snake to come in many years later,
Finally where was my bare knuckle fight?Metal gear doesnt end in rocket battle, or a vehicle fight, or even an epic gun fight, it ends in a bare knuckle fist fight one on one.

Mgsv is pretty cool. I was especially impressed that they added bullet drop and bullet travel time to the game. And you play as a legendary operator with a horn on his head, what's not to enjoy about that? A lot of people complain about the story but I thought it was pretty kino, and even if you don't like the story the gameplay more than makes up for it. The bad part is that a lot of the outposts are very similar to eachother and there isnt any large interior gameplay but I mean open world Afghanistan, what can you do.

They talked about some parasites. MGSV's one is made with technology that's destroyed at the end of the game & not even purposed like the rest. REX was meant to be a nuke launcher who can hold its own in combat, RAY was specifically designed to defeat REX's copycats after REX's blueprints got leaked, etc. I should note that Salehandropus is rather weak in comparison to REX in the sense that we don't even need to target a radome & shit. REX is still operational in MGS4 & defeated RAY.

Her and the Cobras are one of the most retarded things in the series. Kojima literally thought 9 month pregant woman + Normandy beach = great idea, not to mention he cleary has no idea what part of the female body the uterus is located in

Only two of them had parasites, IIRC.
That's bullshit though. I loved how The Pain got his beefriends through chemistry/enthomologic powers and /an/-lurking.
>>31053668
Ok that's bullshit, true, but what I like is
>WW2
>The Boss is the Original Boss
I always found her army of freaks pretty cringy, but I liked sniper grandpa and angryPyro.
And hungry Fear dude and Crazy Bee giant were hillarius nutjobs (although they account for 70% of the group cringyness).

But I'd like to see The Boss smile some more

I thought she got that huge scar because the medic doing the c-section got shot in the middle of performing.
>>

The Tengu are exactly what the first powered exos with artificial CNT fibers will look like.

*CNT: Carbon Nanotubes
>>
>>31053726
The Snake scar she has is taken directly from Escape from New York/LA, Kojima just didn't have any fucking clue to explain how she got it.

In reality no medical would make a scar like that, even in battle, not to mention a pregant woman, A 9 MONTH PREGANT WOMAN being in combat, Jesus fucking christ it's retarded
>>
>>31053571
This old Bullshitting again.

No, they can't. However, when you run behind a bush and don't pop out the other side they'll do exactly what you would. Lite that shit up. Also, they have ears and can hear you walking.

That said, they are very good at spotting you once you start shooting at them with a machine gun in a big open field without any cover.
>>
>>31053716
The Fury fight was one of the silliest fights in the series. I literally stepped out, held down fire on the M60, then it ended. It was bewildering how quickly he comes and goes. You see him in the background like once and then its

I want a WWII MGS game so hard. There is SO much material to work with. FS knives, grease guns and MP40s, more 1911s, Welrod pistol, De Lisle carbine, bigass radios, French Resistance, operating undercover / snatch missions. And of course it MGS so there will be some 'super secret' weapon stuff, prototype jet engines, and shit that barely existed but wasn't even close to practical at the time

>>31054186
Those are the drawbacks of fighting a guy with automatic weapons using a flamethrower
The Cobras weren't even trying to kill you
Fury fights around water lines and in corridors where you can gun him down easily
Pain uses his bee in an underground lake
The End literally cannot kill you. He'll even carry your tranquilized ass back to the warehouse.
>>
>>31054186

MGS3 was originally going to have a more space theme, complete with Space Oddity as the ending theme but Kojima changed focus
>>
>>31054536
Both Fury and the Boss were astronauts, too bad Kojima wanted to change the theme.
But why?
>>
>>31054676
Kojima literally can't go 10 minutes without changing his mind, the only reason the first 3, really 2, MGS games had any kind of consistency is because there was a cowriter who was responsible for much of the story and direction of the games, but he left after MGS3, with V, you can see Kojima has no idea what he's doing when left to his own devices

MGSV is a fever dream by Solid Snake after Ocelot made him watch him play Zone of the Enders 2 for 5 hours, start to finish.

That's why the Gear looks like a mash-up of all the mechs.
>>
>>31057646
You know, I'd be okay with that.

What I really want is an open world PMC simulator in the FOX engine. Like MGSV without the story, only expanded upon in virtually every aspect. (more and deeper customization, more battlefields to deploy to, greater enemy variety, more vehicles, more base weapons to customize, etc.) The only thing I really missed in the game was that sweet Not!Hind from GZ.
>>
>>31057676
I want that as well.

If they had Diamond Dogs customization and co-op in the singleplayer (friend plays as Diamond Dog soldier with his custom character face he made at the start of the game, and he takes the place of your buddy), and like a more AR-15 type rifle, it would be so good.

The ones in the Division aren't too bad. SMG's sound a little wimpy, but pistols sound meaty AF. I remember using a 1911 despite having a better M9 because it felt more badass Mozambique-ing looters as bass-y shots rang out between the buildings.

Shame the revolver is dick in it.

This was never confirmed. In my opinion they didn't use real guns because the game took place in the 80's but Kojima wanted to use more modern tech so they just went full retard and made fictional weapons so they could be customized however he wanted for the gameplay. Why would Kojima go full liberal now after games like MGS4 which were basically gun porn or dedicating a 10 minute scene in MGS3 to Snake being orgasmic over his 1911.
>>
>>31057920
That would've been great. I wish MGSV had a portion where the Taliban and Rooskies were in a hot war. I imagine Kojima would've wanted that, but Konami was all stupid and decided to make this take place after the vocal cord parasite took out the Pashtun-speaking population.
>>
>>31058429

There's nobody to pay for licensing on the likeness of AR-15s, AR-18s, FALs, AKs, 1911s, Makarovs, all sorts of generic revolvers and shotguns... I tend to think this was more out of easier modular weapon pieces that fit together for frankenguns, and Venom Snake going a bit loopy from having his gray matter fucked by shrapnel and psychological manipulation.

Take, for instance, Paz's secret room which doesn't exist:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAhzrExCpaI

You have to do all this crazy shit to get this cutscene, and the room simply doesn't exist on the platform. The floor plan makes about as much sense as the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.

>visit quiet (she walks in circles around her cage)
>visit paz (get a few cutscenes)
And visit the zoo platform, which has some (not all) of the animals you capture. They originally said animals would walk around on your regular platforms, which would have been great, but nope.
I made a list on /v/ a while back of all the things I wish you could do on mother base, it might have had a hundred different things on it. Just thinking about it makes me sad again :(

It bugs me that the medic gets out of his nine year coma and within a week he's back in shape and can do everything perfectly like Big Boss instantly. I wish there was some progression, like at first all he can do is clobber people with his robo arm, and silent movement is really slow, and over time he learns and gets better. It could be justified by them saying that BB has to relearn all these skills after being in the coma so long, but really it's because he's the medic and he never learned skills like these before.
I mean, when you arrive in afghanistan medic boss has trouble taking a water bottle from ocelot in his robo hand but as soon as the cutscene is over he's as dextrous as his real hand was. For an amputee he's not disabled in the slightest.

While I agree, I should note that moving on is one of the themes of MGSV. While Kaz is endlessly buttburt & not even willing to get cybernetic limbs like Venom, Venom gets them & powers no other Snake has. Where Kaz is stuck in the past, Venom looks forward & betters himself.
