What exactly does Naval intelligence/Intelligence officers do?

What exactly does Naval intelligence/Intelligence officers do? Do they literally just sit aboard ships listening to conversations and watching radar screens? Do they ever get to go out into the field? Seems like a miserable life to me...

Plenty of naval assets operate on land too. Navy EOD, obviously SEALS, Seabees, etc etc. Why wouldnt some of the Intel guys too?
