The water main to my building burst late one night when everyone was in bed, the parking garage flooded, and management refused to pick up the emergency phone. The city not only had a 24 hour utilities dispatch, but they showed up faster than the fire department does to calls. When I told them this, they told me it's because they have no accommodations while they wait for calls, they just sit in or by the truck.

So I didn't want to be a faggot and make an ar15 build thread, but I'm getting my first ar and this seems like as good a place to ask as any. What I'm planning on doing is picking up a s&w m&p sport ii. Then after a bit of time passes I was hoping to get a gas block flip front sight and magpul furniture because it's cheap, looks good, and gets great reviews. After all that I'll go into optics. Is there anything inherently wrong with this? I'm a recovering fudd and don't know much aside from the basics on these things

Cheap NSR clones like guntec are probably the best bang for your buck you will find. I recommend you build an AR instead of buying.

Easy. You will want a $7 punch set from Home Chinko, channel locks, and an armorers wrench. Someone posted a lower assembly video in the old thread, it's a good resource.

Don't do bolt catch with punches unless you have a roll pin starter if you've never done it before. Wrap channel lock jaws in duct tape and press it in with those. It's also a good technique for trigger guard roll pins.

A basic punch set, a small brass hammer, and a Buffer tube wrench will do everything you need.

YouTube is actually a good source, watch a couple builds and you will see what it involves.

Also, a pair of adjustable pliers covered in e-tape to install the bolt catch rollpin are a lifesaver. Way easier and more controllable than trying to hammer it in with a punch.


It is very easy, just watch builds and take notes.

I used just a magpul BEV block for mine. It does seem to flex slightly, but if you anchor it properly, and use the pins that come with it, everything stays in place. It can also anchor to the lugs on the barrel extension for working on the upper.

the wheeler block is also damn helpful.

I personally don't like fragmentation and rounds meant to tumble do more damage on flesh over a longer wound track. Frag explodes, dumps most its energy, then usually a small core continues through. Both perform well enough in flesh though and have better barrier penetrating capabilities than Cor-Lokt so no complaints there.

You shoot a quarter inch steel plate with SS109, XM193, and Core-Lokt you will see deep pit, light pit, shallow pit with a flattened lead disc. You can verify this claim very easily, it most certainly does NOT have better penetration through hardened materials.

As for ballistic coefficient, glad I don't have the burden of proof. Look it up, HP / Pointed tips are more slippery in air.

PSA frequently has the Federal LE 62gr softpoint load for around 50cpr, with the occasional sale dropping it to ~40cpr.

You can occasionally find Speer Gold Dot 64gr or Fed Fusion/Fusion MSR for around 60cpr.

You can occasionally find the Hornady Superformance 62gr GMX load for ~80cpr but it's usually over a buck each. I don't like Superformance, it doesn't shoot that accurately, but it's fast as shit compared to other loads of the same bullet weight.
