How does /k/ feel about side charging uppers?

Question 2: if given the choice would your rather have a DI side charger, a piston ar with a standard charging handle, a combinationof both, or $900 worth of sandwiches?

Not a fan.

Would take a side charger over a piston

>piston
then its not an AR
>>
>>31018739
all ARs are piston actions.
>>

I'm talking about the gas block obvs.

I've been eyeing this $600 complete side charging upper for some time. I saw two rifles at my Lgs, one with the side charger I want with s DI gas system, the other with a regular upper with an Adam's Arms gas system for the same price.

Ehhhh, neat, but I actually like placement of the standard, though a bigger latch model is nice. One of those things that feels right on an AR, though I'm sure many disagree.
>>
>>31018663
I don't really see the point. I rarely touch the standard one unless I need to clear a double feed or bolt override and I don't think a side charging handle would make that any easier.

The only time I really see the NEED for one on an AR is when you have a funky sapcegun stock.

Not a bad concept for something like an ARES SCR.

The SU-15 by Serbu firearms would be pretty sweet to put on an ARES SCR if it'll work. Especially for plebs like me who live in states where AR-15's are banned.

What in the actual fuck, did someone actually try to shoot that disaster?
>>
>>31018663
for me it just makes it not look like an AR.

No. That's a CETME-91

I'm putting together an 18" SPR build with the Gibbz side charging upper.

They are neat but the use of propitiary parts removes any advantages you get.

If you're getting it to "fix the charging system" on an AR you're retarded. If you getting it because it's a cool as fuck upper and you wanna play with it / love the aesthetics, then rock on.

Don't fix what ain't broke

Matrix Arms makes one that uses regular bolts with no modifications.

I like left hand side charging uppers from an ergos standpoint.

That being said I wouldn't get one. Just means less standard parts, meaning tougher to replace shit, less options, ect. Besides, I have an extended latch on my AR and can treat it like a left hand charging handle without having a special upper.
>>
>>31019007
I've been giving some serious thought to the Gibbz, myself. I hear it'll work with the Ares SCR's curved bolt carrier.
>>
Love it on other guns

Hate it on ARs

Meh. If you want one, buy a gun that was designed with it.
>>
>>31023237
why?
If you don't like the normal charging handle, why not get one you like
Especially since the AR is as modular as it is

Are you me? I live in a free state and want to build something like this. Maybe use a gas piston upper as well.

SU-15 is so cool! I can't wait until they come out.
>>
I want a side charger that keeps the charging handle and only needs a special cam pin.
