I'm so used to seeing war played out WW2 style thanks to the media. It's kinda strange to imagine that modern naval wars consist of gazillion of missiles being thrown at each others' ships instead of dive bombers and cannons.

In what world do you two exist that any nation with a navy attacking another would not be in the presence of at least 1 US naval asset? American exceptionalism is limited to a few things, and one of them is in the world of naval assets and warfare.

It would be weird.

Two forces defect each other on radar, ships assume their positions, for a minute or two is the hellish noise of tons of missiles firing off towards the enemy, then it's quiet as the ships sail ahead and the smoke from the launches clear, the ships pick up the enemy's incoming missiles and begin to take evasive actions, more missiles fire off to intercept the incoming ones, it's quiet again, and then you hear the CIWS going off and chaff being fired off. Then there's splashes from misses and explosions from hits.

This is all happening of both sides of the battlefield. Almost reminiscent of old infantry line combat; both sides fire, the battlefield is hazy, the smoke clear, they evaluate the damage caused, and then fire again.

Just look at Best and Worst Korea. A bunch of misses and the occasional hit followed by finger pointing for a week because neither sides want to hurt themselves.
