I should clarify 13.5" barrel. It's not restricted in canada as long as the overall length is at least 26". Short Chinese 870 clones are cheap enough that getting it stolen won't hurt me financially but I'm not interested in arming native gang bangers or having to deal with the cops even though I'm in full compliance in the law.

It's sort of a preparation for a what if scenario if we go full blown Europe with the refugee attacks. Right now the risk of it getting stolen far outweighs the need to keep a gun in the truck, but that can change. I just need a way to hide it in plain sight,

Just get a straight up guitar gig bag. I'm a guitar and bass player so I've always used the gig bags I have laying around. Even after purchasing a couple guns bags I still prefer my old guitar and bass gig bags, they're incredibly inconspicuous, especially the ones that are branded gibson and whatnot. They're roomy and very padded, and many of them unzip flat which makes for a nice and convenient mat for your guns or your body when shooting prone.

I have a aversion to bags with gun brands and logos.

One of my long gun case looks like it holds a pole cue. I use it to carry guns to places that I do not want to be obvious. I use a larger straight sided case if needed.

My truck unusually enough has a tool storage compartment under the passenger seat. Which holds "tools". I polled friends who have ridden in my truck and they had no idea it was there.

In my car I have a length of 4" wide velcro the full width of the trunk under the top of trunk compartment as far in as possible. I have a corresponding black long gun case with velcro sewn on it. When affixed and the trunk lid is open you have to stick you head down into the trunk and look up and to back to see it hanging there. It's a worthwhile investment to have dedicated storage solution like that. If some squatted down and looked into my truck they might see it but then would probably just think it was the top of the trunk compartment with the speakers blocking the complete view.

If you're transporting an AR or a similar rifle, just break it down and put it in a duffel like picrelated. To a casual observer you're just carrying around your gym clothes. If you're storing it in a car, throw it in your trunk and find a way to secure it with a small padlock.

Personally I would never use a guitar case. Guitars are one of the easiest things to pawn so Tyrone is going to grab that real quick.
Go watch Demolition Ranches video on the hidden rifle compartment he made for his truck. James "Buck angle" Jeger also had a good Video on am guns in cars. Get a beater you can tie a chain around and padlock in, or a real lockbox that can't be removed from your car. Dindus aren't going to take more than a minute to rummage your car and if you lock the doors and have nothing in plain view, the chances of your windows getting smashed are real low. Its the idiots and Uber divers who keep their GPSes out or their laptop/tablet bags in their front seat.

I only ever buy Guns and Ammo when I'm in the airport, but the most recent issue I bought featured a backpack for this exact purpose. It looks like a normal backpack, but the inside is made specifically to carry guns and shit. Inside was also covered in MOLLE if you're in to that. Threw it away when I was done with it or I'd post it for you guys.

cutting foam would be way easier. It's easy to cut - waxed knife, hot wire, not-even-hot-wire with some force, fine tooth saw. Then coat it with some kind of epoxy, plasti dip spray, or bed liner. It'll prevent styro flakes getting everywhere and make it stronger

ok here is a REAL use for bed liner. It's doesn't magically make everything bomb proof, what it does is increases tensile strength. Compressive strength is compressing/pushing. Tensile strength is pulling or bending. You use a hard brittle material (ie concrete, styrofoam) to get compressive strength and coat it with a soft flexible material (kevlar, bedliner) to get tensile strength.
