Cheek weld is meh at best, stock is offset to the right side which is a bit awkward at first but is something I can get used to, and it's just too damn complicated for my liking (as previously stated, to disassemble it to mount on the fixed stock trunnion required: 4 hex keys and 2 flatheads, and to adjust some rubber that was bunched up required a phillips head as well).

I also dislike the lack of QD points. As far as I can tell, the PT-3 is better in every way unless you've got an optic, and since I don't have a folding trunnion I have no interest in the negative presented in that area.

It's a blessing and a curse. I've got all these great deals and I just want to buy everything, but I also want to save money.

>>30980538
I really just wanted a more Slav-oriented AK rather than a westernized AK. I'm trying to throw as many Eastern bloc accessories on it as I can rather than relying on their American counterpart. I've had an Aimpoint T-2 and I have an ACOG, and while I can say that the PK-AS is no T-2 and theorize that the 1P78 Kashtan isn't half the optic my TA33 is, I can also say that they're quite a bit cheaper, much more aesthetically pleasing, and much less useful because this AK is nothing more than a range toy and maybe something I occasionally use for hunting hogs.

Western is more practical, but Eastern is more fun. I want this gun to stay fun and pretty, so I'll stay Eastern.

RS Regulate and Aimpoint is a good setup and all, but to me I'll take the objectively shittier optic for the AK's sake any day.

Yeah the barrel parts are insane.
$70 for gas block
$90 FSB
$45 gas tube
$130 plum furniture

I think I'm just going to pick up a bulgarian kit from Rguns for $325 and resell all the shit I dont need. I'm hoping to make ~$150 from the trunnions, bolt, and carrier.

What's the closest thing to an AK I can get in NY? How easy is it to convert a saiga?

The hardest part would be doing the FSB and gas block. However, since you are in NY you probably shouldn't cause SAFE Act.

got a question since you have an ALG AKT. Does your trigger pin move slightly back and forth when you have the safety on and you try to press the trigger? It seems like the trigger pin hole on my AK is just slightly too big and lets the trigger pin move back and forth.

Under the hammer pin. (front pin)
Over the trigger pin. (rear pin)
Safety goes through the hole.
Make sure the spring (called a shepherds hook) is in the groove that is in the two retainer pins. This spring keeps those two pins from walking out under fire.

If you're still not sure, there are tons of youtube videos showing what to do.

I don't need to purchase an optic to know it's fucking terrible. An optic being terrible is part of my reason NOT to purchase it. I've already heard all about the non-tactile, incredibly rough adjustments that make accurate shooting out more than 100m an exercise in luck. I've also seen more than enough pictures of the glass with and without the polarizer to know the tint is too damn dark to be useful in about 90% of the world. It's a cool optic with a cool concept, and it's better than the Mepro M21 in that way, but being better than the Mepro is something that's expected for any red dot made in the 2010s, and by a much larger margin than the Obzor is.

I suppose this counts...

Trijicon TR24 1-4x w/ green triangle (tritium backlit fiber optic illum), lens caps, quick throw handle for going from 1-4, Trijicon branded bobro mount.

cons:
max 4x magnification
only waterproof to like 10 feet
no ranging marks on reticle, triangle should be useable for ranging though
>>
>>30985078
i would recommend getting a fixed stock rifle if you're wanting one that folds to the right. then you can mount a wire folder from Poland, Romania, or East Germany, or if you want you can mount a more modern stock like a Magpul Zukov.

How much of a pain was it to replace the gas block and FSB?

I do have a small drill press that I could use to do the pins.

However, I don't have a hydraulic press. Could I install the gas block and FSB with like a dead blow hammer or rubber mallet?
>>

Its not threaded.

Why modify the AK though?
Ergos of a fixed polymer stock AK-74 are fucking great. In fact, the only reason I pick it up over my AR is because I don't modify it ever week or two.

Funny you should mention this.

There is a tool described in this Soviet AKM maintenance manual for removing the front sight post (I think).

Guessing you use the thread protector nut by screwing it out a little bit then press against it to yank the fsb off.

I wouldn't recommend drilling out the pins, you should be able to use a good punch set to knock them out. You should be able to use something like the Toth Tools barrel tool to install the new components

Promag has mags that are range tier at best and may need to be filed in some areas depending on what rifle, are about $12 each and are the last resort to feed your rifle. Weigers won't fit, Chinese 5.56 mags won't fit, Galils won't work, Saigas won't work. 74 mags can be made to work, but I've only been able to put about 15 rounds in a mag. Clear circle 10s crack at the lugs, stay away. Black circle 10s are good. Beryls are better and look nicer. Stay away from clear Beryls

I have questions, /akg/.

Is it worth building my bulgy AKS-74U kit if I can just buy SLR-104-51 and cut the barrel? My kit has a legit bulgy barrel, wood HG and triangle folder. Maybe I should have both?

I have a galil ace pistol to SBR, should I still get an SLR-107-51?

I already have a bunch of NDS receivers for my kits, should I get something better like 74U LLC. receivers and keep the NDS for a rainy day?

I'm trying to get all of the shit I want before it's banned or unavailable. $1k for a krink-ready gun seems like a decent price, but it's competing with other items I want and I have AK shit already. I still want an AUG, a Daewoo, high cap 22lr guns and mags. I want an RPK in 5.45 and 7.62 but that probably won't happen.

There's no real reason to do a bulgy kit over a 104UR. Only reason why you would want to do that is that the original barrel in the Bulgarian kit. That's fairly desirable. Correct twist rate, and chrome that goes all the way out to the crown, which you won't have on a cut-down 104UR. Don't be tempted by the SBR's that K-var sells either, they're just cut down barrels too. They also have the "wrong" twist rate, which will still stabilize, but the twist rate of that original barrel will stabilize better at that length.

The value of that kit is enough to cover a 104UR and probably the tax stamp too. That's a factory built Bulgarian krinker on a real Bulgarian receiver vs a parts kit build on a US receiver.

I'm interested in the barrel if you want to break up the kit. A lot of people used to break up those kits because people pay big bucks for the barrels. Problem being, who is going to buy a barrel-less bulgy kit unless it's for a quite low price.

Not the guy you were talking too, but the reason Eastwave us so cheap is that they don't actually stock most of the optics they sell.
The majority of their orders get drop-shipped from the factory in Belarus, meaning you will wait 4-6 weeks for your order in most cases.

Other than that, they are reliable and you will eventually get what you order.

I have a Polish underfolder and a Burris Fastfire 3 I'm thinking about mounting to it.

Whats the best option for mounting? Would I be be better off replacing the gas tube with a railed one from Midwest Industries or the extended rear sight with mount?

Or are there other options?

Or is this just a shit idea from the get go?

I paid $750 for mine. If I remember right, the first gen had fucked up muzzled devices, the second had it corrected, and the third had the beryl thumb safety on the left side too. I could be wrong on this.

You do you a point, but I have 2 other guns in that size and none in .308 or .54r.

I just want my 20 round magazines even if they are longer.

Vepr troll from last night here.

When I went to my LGS, the WASR they had, aside from surface rust, had a thread protector, not a brake. It also had no cleaning rod.

The N-PAP's they had were just pure shit. I think both the WASR and N-PAP's were from Century.

To be fair, the WASR was probably the last one in stock that nobody would buy.

tl:dr: if you want a decent AK platform widget, eat some Mac and Chee for a few weeks to save up, and get a Vepr.

In other news, I finally got a good job, any deals going on right now? I want an AK variant, and I want to get one before Hillary bans all guns and I have to have a terrible boating accident,
I want a milled AK, that's my only requirement.

Why? That greatly narrows your options and offers no real benefits.

I mean the usual suggestions: WASR, DDI, Aresenal, etc. Limiting yourself to milled AKs is pretty detrimental and the only good options will be good bit more expensive than perfectly fine stamped AKs.

DDI has always been good, it's just that there is constant shitposting from faggots that echo bullshit from one incident of somebody getting a canted sight.

The same goes for WASRs, most of the bad shit came from their pre-2008 rifles when they had monkies working at century. Which for the most part they do, but only for their current American made AKs.

I can vouch for the rs and pa micro dot. The mount is very solid and the optic is damn good for the price. the whole system is actually really light as well. It weighs a total of 187 grams.

Talk to him. Hes actually a pretty cool dude. He says he has family/friends in the military over there. He can probably help you get something you need..he did for me. I asked him what he had into those quad stacks...stupid amounts of money.
>>
>>30993092
I've talked to him before, he's alright. The whole "racism is part of my identity" thing is pretty off-putting. I mean, in my opinion everyone has tendencies that could be labeled as racist depending on your definition, whether they repress those feelings or acknowledge them, but the whole "hey everybody look I hate niggers" thing, I dunno.

However much it would cost to get one of those translucent quad stacks is most likely more than I'd ever be willing to pay, I'd probably buy a 50 round regular quad stack given the opportunity though. It's a Grail mag for me.
>>
>>30993332
When he had 3 of them he said he was 6 grand in. Think he has 4 now.

I also i find it wierd he ships stuff from his home address. I google earth"d his house. Its like in the middle of a swamp.

>>
>>30993762

>>30993766
I don't need a translucent one though just a solid black one would satisfy me

>>30993866
That's an original barrel, all matching, PM md. 63 kit. Even the dong matches according to the seller even though it looks questionable to me. It's definitely more desirable than whatever kit you saw.
>>
>>30994038
The kit I saw wasn't in bad shape. For 1300 I could really give two shits about the original Romanian barrel. I agree with you on the matching dong looks questionable. But if I ever got a romy 7.62 I would make it as ugly and mismatched as possible
>>
>>30994132
It's because original barrel kits can't be imported anymore. And the vast majority of Romanian kits that got imported were G kits. A matching dong would be pretty awesome IMO.

There was a guy at VA Nuggetfest with a kit build similar to that one. It had all matching parts, including the dong, but the builder fucked up the front trunnion, so everything matched except the front trunnion. My heart goes out to him
>>
>>30994204
Yea. That is the dumbest law ever. Once a machine gun barrel always a machine gun barrel. But, theyll sell the parts kits with all the funomatic parts...Personally, I'm not all about the romanian stuff, well besides their version of the '74.
Guy at nugget fest must still be punching himself in the balls for that. I would have an autism fit if anything on my 74 clone ever got fucked.
>>
>>30993804
Honestly Russian standard slings are my favorite slings period.
>>
>>30994291
Yeah the barrel ban is the worst shit ever. Our importation laws are fucking dumb. I'd cut off a foot for Canada's import laws.

Welp.

Trying to throw together some 74M clones and I want the correct stock. One of my rifles has a 4.5mm trunion and I'm too lazy to swap it out for a proper one.
>>
>>30994723

They were in stock a few months ago at some parts dealer.

I'll look around but no promises.
>>
>>30994723
The Arsenal poly stocks are 4.5 and look correct.
>>
>>30994762
Neat, thanks.

Also, it it worth it to track down a SGL31-94 or should I just grab a SGL31-68 and do the folding stock conversion. Are Fime rifles all that's left now? Don't want one without the trunion stamp.

Or should I just keep looking for a proper parts kit and build from the ground up.
>>
>>30994842
No GP-30 pad slot.

I've got a Form 1 in purgatory for a reactivated GP-25.
>>
>>30994857

IMHO a competent smith or builder will probably churn out a better rifle than Arsenal.

That's not to say arsenal is of bad quality (and I would be downright dishonest if I said they were-duh) but the individual level of detail afforded by building from a parts kit creates just something really cool and personal about the rifle to me.

That said though the SLG31-94 is excellent.

Speaking of builds, have any new or fun things boof?

Ok, so on Saturday i found a 2015 WASR in good condition (other than a canted sight) for $650 at my local pawn shop. I was considering spending upwards of $1000 on an arsenal, but I am starting to lean towards the wasr and an assload of ammo instead.

What else should I be looking at on this gun to make sure its not a pile of shit, I didn't notice any huge bends in the barrel or anything, and the rivets looked good
