Looking to get a cheap ($500-$600) semi-auto rifle. Any suggestions? Been looking at a MAS 49/56.
No SKS please.

A really shitty AR or AK. That's about it.

The MAS is a great rifle for a good price, but the ammo can get expensive. Look at building an AR or buying a bottom of the barrel one. Otherwise save up.

Fucking this. Why do people always get so impatient? I would rather have a good gun later than a shitty gun now.

I've heard that the MAS is a great rifle, and I've enjoyed the time I've spent with them. That's my first choice, but if I could find a garand for the same price I would take it in a heartbeat.

Is this a first rifle? If so I wouldn't reccomend a full size cartridge, it's more expensive to practice with.

not first. I have a kar98 with me, and the rest are elsewhere. The rest are mainly .22s and an AR somewhere.

If you can find a MAS for that price I'd jump on it. Do you know if the CMP still has garands?

last I checked CMP didn't have any more garands. Saw one just the other day I was going to grab for 650. great condition, 100 rounds of ammo, original strap, 8 original en-blocs. It was beautiful, but someone got it before me

Save up 50 more bucks and get a wasr or m&p15 sport off of gunbroker
a wasr 10 (ak) these days is $650
palmetto state and a few other manufactuers sell ar15s in the $500-$700 price range that are quite good. like, Id take that shit to war good. 7.62x39 and 5.56 are both cheap centerfire rounds too.
You're going to have a hard time finding a MAS 49/56 in your price range. They're $700+ usually now.
Anyways just build an AR.
