What do you think about police using load-bearing vests? do you think it looks too militaristic or does it have genuine weapon-carrying benefits?
>>
Not military just stupid they are called battle bras for a reason
>>
>>30961551
Honestly much more practical and comfortable than a belt, about the only militarization police actually neef.
>>
cops carry a lot of shit, makes sense to haul it with something
>>
I loved mine. Saved my back whilst on duty.
>>
I find it hard to believe that a beat cop even has that much shit to carry that he'd need a tool belt AND load-bearing vest.

It also does look too militaristic for people who are definitely not supposed to be military units. Police militarization is bad, bad, bad.

Centre-mounted epaulets are cool though and should be on more kevlar vests.
>>
>>30961551

>>
I'm cool with it so long as cops have no problem with civvies doing that too.
>>
>>30964740
>>30961551
They could make it less militaristic if they styled/colored them after traffic vests. Still looks definitely police/civil-servant while providing more carry space.

>provides Kevlar in some instances
>provides adequate back support for equipment
>provides adequate identification for "POLICE" and "SHERRIFF" ID's

Yea, its ok...but its pushing it. Once they start wearing camo and Plate Carriers, ita gone too far.....oh wait...
>>
>>30964740
Center mounted Epaulets are not cool. They are a strange change for the sake of change modification. The Epaulet was designed for the shoulder and looks and functions better from that position.

Try determining someones rank with center mounting when they aren't facing you directly. Its very difficult. Shoulders are more visible. Plus you look dorky taking a bit that is supposed to be on your shoulders and sticking it to the front of your shirt.
>>
>>30966366
>Implying your everyday beat cop is driving around in his MRAP with his multicam and plate carrier
Of course SWAT teams are going to have heavy armor, are you expecting them to go up against guys with rifles with only level II kevlar?
>>
>>30966293
Should have reflective tape though. Cops die far more often because people don't see them on dark roads then because someone sees them.
>>
>>30961551
It is just moving shit on belt to shit on torso, what is so militarized about that?
>>
>>30966366
I'm fine with cops wearing plate carriers, they can have as much armor as they want. I agree that camo is not for police. Police should be easily identifiable, not camouflaged.
>>
>>30966293

>british cops carry around submachine guns

What a shit country.

The same reason why departments don't paint patrol cars like they do in Europe with all bright with zig-zag lines. Tradition. If you want to adopt European police dress then you should consider adopting their mentality as true public servants.
>>
The queensland police carry the exact same gear you idiot.
They changed to the vest cause it takes 10 minutes to go to the toilet with all the shit on your belt.
>>
>>30966836
Agreed. Anything that's available to your average joe should be available to the average cop.
I think Game Wardens are the exemption on that though, they conduct sting operations on the fly quite often.
>>
>>30967050
Well shit that made me sound like I advocated shooting at game wardens. What I meant was they should be allowed to camouflage themselves any way they see fit.

The vest is worn over the top of a uniform shirt.

The shoulder straps frequently cover the epaulettes making the rank hard to see. Vest worn epaulette makes it easier for quick rank ID when stuff is happening.

It is obvious you have never worn any kit outside of posing in front of a mirror for gearfag posts.

Bristish police have hi visibility jacket they through on over the rest of their uniform when working near or on roads.

They aren't wearing them as they most likely static/ micro patrol officers around busy places in London.
>>
>>30964740
Reminder civies can walk around dressed like a faggot out of some 'special' forces but if a cop tries to make his job easier\less lethal he's a militarised faggot who'll burn in hell
>>
>>30961551
Why would you want to run around all day with that much gear? Do these people really just sit in their cars with AC all day? That would explain the fatness

Where I come from, on-duty police always wear LBVs in high-visibility yellow.
Nobody really seems to mind, other than some oldschool cops who think the brightly-colored vests look absolutely ridiculous.
>>
>>30961551
Can't they use the chest rig style instead? or the WW1/2 webbing ? That would look less militarised, but still have good LB function/
>>
>>30967390
I don't get what weapon sweeps are for
Kek. London police needs MP5s, while Singapore still uses revolvers.
>>
>>30961551
Guy who has a buddy in the QLD police force here:

It's just to save time and be more comfortable for officers. They can put it on and slide it off easily, so if they need to do something like take a shit it's a lot easier.

It doesn't let them carry any more, they just move stuff they used to have on the belts to the vest (I've even seen cops who mount their tasers on their vests for this reason).

Also, QLD police have a generally black uniform layout for patrol officers, but they all have high visibility marked cars (pic related). When they need to do traffic work and other such stuff at night they'll put on high visibility vests. And the patrol cars do to some degree reflect light off the orange paint on their body.
>>
While I 90% of the time support cops, their militarization is a concern of mine. Primarily because they are utilizing equipment they receive but have little training on. Having deployed I realize the mentality I had while abroad is not the mentality I want a home officer to have. Sure it's training, but many police these days are vets who when they throw the armor on its 'go time'.

I don't have an issue with police being armored, but I believe it should be worn under their uniform. That's how they use to do it at my hometown. Maybe I'm biased. Just my two cents.
>>
>>30968033

Weapons sweeps are usually before big events like Notting hill carnival. Gangs stash knives to pick up later to save being caught with them on the way to it. The Met rarely find things so are forced to post pictures of broken broom handles.

The MP5s are for select officers for guarding tourist or very busy areas in case of a terrorist attack. Generally the police are unarmed. It's an attempt at deterrence.
>>
>>30966293
jesus fucking christ..

Amerifag cop here. People give us so much shit cuz we shoot the occasional dindu, and some redneck places utilize SWAT way to much. but how often do you see regular patrols with SMG's like its any other day. If anything US Policing is become way less militarized and utilizes less force...

Just ask Bonnie and Clyde. The cops ambushed those fuckers with BARs

Are you an idiot? The only place you see armed police is at airports and at important places in major cities.

If you see them anywhere else its because something serious has happened or is expected to happen.

Jesus christ /k/, most of you sound like anti's with muh feelings, and muh scary vests w/ lots of scary pockets for things why do they need all those things in those pockets, huh? POLICE MILITIRAZATION!! POLICE STATE!! I KNOW MY RIGHTS!! Just shut the fuck up and let them do their job goddamn. When you see your local patrol officers driving down residential in an MRAP, wearing full battle rattle OC'ing their AR's while on standard patrol, then you can bitch about "police militarization".
>>
Amerifag cop here. Ive been wanting my agency to allow outer vests for a while but they wont let us. Lots of benefits to them. Oh well, maybe some day.
>>
>>30967056
ohh yeah good thing you corrected that
>>
>>30969198
Have any crazy stories?
Also why won't they let ou have an outer vest.
>>
>>30961551
I think it's legit. Sure as fuck better than keeping everything on a belt.
>>
>>30969267
Yeah some but im bout to go to sleep. Shot someone last year, TLDR guy tried to run me over with a car, HST 180 grain sucks against cars, handguns suck for quick incapacitation, trauma centers are really good at bringing people back from the brink of death, and police administrations will try to fuck you no matter how clean your shoot is. As far as outer vests go, we are actually authorized to purchase the midnight blue vests with pockets that are designed to look like our uniform shirts but i think theyre cheesey as fuck looking and should come with a pocket watch and tobacco pipe. Were not allowed to wear ones that make sense such as ones worn by LE in the UK or as seen on alaska state troopers because they look too militarized or some shit. I keep a banshee with rifle plates, my ar, and my helmet in the trunk though.
>>
>>30969198
It's so much better, I had to get my outer custom fitted and customized for the equipment carried on it, so I had to wear the inner vest every day and that shit sucks, the vest sticks to you on humid days, and it's a bitch to take on and off, especially when you need to go to the bathroom.

>>
>>30961551
I don't see the issue, carrying about twenty or so pounds of shit on your hips for hours gets uncomfortable as hell.
And civilians can wear the exact same shit so what's the issue?
>>
I dont want any more shit to carry. Belt and pockets are fine.

I disagree. I was waiting by my car in a parking lot waiting for a friend to show up and got stopped and questioned by two asshole cops wearing pretty much your pic related. I guess they assumed I was making a drug deal or something, but they treated me like shit and wanted to search my car for no reason.

Meanwhile I had two cops show up responding to a call about a homeless dude swimming in my neighbors pool dressed in full kit. Plates, AR mags, about a gorillion pouches of shit, and they were among the nicest and most respectful guys I've run into. I even asked a guy about the custom work he had put into his service pistol and we had a little conversation about funs while they were waiting.

What a meme.
Guns are legal in the UK, citizens just have to jump through hoops to legally purchase them. Just like pretty much every other European country.

In fact, the UK doesn't have dumb magazine limits and a ban on pistol grips like some States in the USA do.
The only part of our gun legislation I don't like is the outright ban on pistols and semi auto/automatic centrefire rifles.
>>
>>30961551
I don't mind it, who cares what a cop is wearing or looks like? The only people who have any reason to be concerned about whether a cop has "military" styling are sjw's and turds who are about to go knock over the local stop and rob

stab vests are a must for urban areas, which necessitates rigs. psychological impact of walking around in armor needs to be mitigated for citizen's own sakes and the resulting impact on the safety of the job. lower-profile rigs and armor are necessary for the same reasons attention to personal conduct and grooming are necessary.

No, anon.

Using the definition that was posted on Yahoo in 1998 does not change the current social zeitgeist here. Millennial means a teenager raised in the digital millennium that has never worked a full time job, moved out, challenged their own parents' opinions, and can be found on Deviantart calling out the Reichaboo's over anime nazi art because the public school system told them that's the right thing to do.

They also can be found cackling at the word "Drumpf", watching Larry Wilmore, voting to ban things that the news says are bad, and assuming that everything is racist without actually looking at the source material.

See: Smartphone-addicted skinny jeans wearing 2 parent household upper middle class fuckboy.

>>30972152

Oh, and how's about taking that reddit frog cancer back to the 'front page of the internet', teenagebro? :^)
>>
>>30974234
b-but everyone is racist because it's logically impossible to prove that one is not, and competing methods of classification ensure that all are included!

why aren't you better at pretending not to be, like all those doughy-eyed rainbow-cosplayers?
>>
>>30974326

Honestly if 90 percent of these Facebook liberals would just work full time in a skilled labor position, they'd be more confident in themselves as men and feel less compelled to "fight the system" they they shovel dollar after dollar into to make them feel safer.

Self reliance brings you confidence, and you're a hell of a lot smarter when you're confident. You stop thinking like "OMGIZZLES THOSE POOR DEAD BABBIES FROM SYRIA" and more like "Why in the fuck did the parents have a kid in a shithole like that and try to get it across the ocean on a dinghy. I'm already paying way too much in taxes to take care of people that are too stupid to take care of themselves, why do I need more of these retards in my community?..."
