>Let's see what you've bought this year
I buy lots of guns. In the past couple weeks, I bought the pictured two USPs, and I am just now getting back from the range having shot them for the first time. I just don't like to spend more than $1000 on any single handgun. Even these two guns were either used (the USP 45 was $525 shipped), or on sale (the USP 40 Tactical was $740 shipped, new in box).

I just think it's stupid to wrap so much money into a single gun, especially a handgun, though I can almost understand spending a lot of money on a precision long range rifle or otherwise more of a specialized use weapon, like .50 BMG. This thing is just a CZ 75 intended for police carry that happens to have been produced using a design pattern and steel composition that was eventually discontinued in favor of something a little different. It doesn't actually do anything that a new production CZ 75B couldn't do just as well.
>>

>I think the way people spend their money is stupid
Its a rare firearm. Its worth a good amount of money. Get over it.
>>
>>30950582
If the people who own them in these threads kept them under glass, then I could understand where you're coming from. I'm not going to tell a gun collector that his all original WWI Colt 1911, which might have cost him $250 in 1963 and is now worth $11,000, was a bad investment. But it seems like pretty much ALL of the short rail owners who post in these threads just shoot the damn things, take them to the range on a regular basis, and can't even bother to wipe their fingerprints off their guns for photos. Those guns are going to get scratches and accumulate wear at an accelerated rate compared to an actual collector's piece that retains its value by being treated more gingerly.

Sorry, but I just don't get it. I mean, I know people are sometimes inspired to buy a gun based on what they saw in a movie or read in a book, but there's a limit to what a work of fiction can deduct from your bank account based on inspiration alone, isn't there? Was Gunsmith Cats really THAT good of a manga to basically dedicate your life to scouring Gunbroker for a year for one of these things, and then when you find one, spending probably more than 1 or 2 month's worth of your salary on it?
>>
>>30950756
>implying I bought it because of a manga
Now you're just making assumptions. Also, It's not a big hit to my finances. I just got a $10k bonus form work and I wanted to buy something nice for myself. The rest went into my Roth IRA. So it's not like I'm going to go poor from it. And just because you don't understand doesn't mean you should scrutinize others for their preference in firearms.
>>
>>30950792

what did you do with your other $1.5k
>>
>>30950816
Where are you getting $1.5k?
>>
>>30950792
>Now you're just making assumptions.
Correct assumptions, though.

And there's no need to get so defensive about your savings habits. I don't know why people always think I'm condemning their personal finances. I said in an earlier post that my hang-up about spending so much on a short rail CZ 75 that you're just going to shoot hard and put away with your paw prints all over it is because it's wasteful.

>And just because you don't understand doesn't mean you should scrutinize others for their preference in firearms.
I'm a pretty smart person, though. If I don't understand the motivation for some behavior, it usually means that there isn't a good, rationally-justified motivation to be found.
>>
>>30950829
Roth IRA has a max of $5k contribution yearly (or is that just the tax-free). so 5 + 3.3 + some rough rounding = 8.5, giving $1.5 left over
>>
>>30950854
Wen't into my personal savings. I'm thinking about taking a trip back home so I figured I could use the extra cash. If I don't take the trip, I'll just buy another gun.

>>30950845
So conceded. Just because you don't see the logic, doesn't mean it isn't there. Again, this is all personal preference. And you were condemning personal finances. You were just saying that I wasted my money and talking about my paycheck.

Transition era 85.
My first handgun purchase 7 years ago on my 21st birthday.
It was used (obviously) and $300. It used to look brand new, now it's got a bit of wear, nothing serious considering how often I shoot it.
>>
>>30950875
Think of it this way: If you had bought a $3,300 Honda Shadow 750cc motorcycle, I would be patting you on the back for money well spent (even though motorcycles depreciate over time and guns do not). Now compare a motorcycle to your little chunk of Czech steel that does the same thing as my little chunk of Czech steel does, even though I only paid $300 for mine, and my thought process might start to make sense to you. Head over to the /buyfag/ threads on /a/ if you want to see people who regularly spend $80-100 on plastic statues of little girls that are probably only worth $15 in materials and labor to produce - or $125-150 on graphic-printed pillow covers that cost less than $2 to produce.

Spending lots of money isn't what I'm objecting to; participating in activities that obstruct the downward price-driving force of a free market is.
>>
>>30950934

what if i spend $900 for a piece of pasta steel that i shoot a lot in competition

What ban?

>>30950893
I think you mean '95...? Wouldn't that just be a 75B?
>>
>>30950970
Well shit, I thought the "pre-b" meant "pre-ban" or something. Thought maybe there was some fed regulations analogous to 922r that made foreign pistols harder to import whole.

What does pre-b mean then? And how does that differ from a "post-b" or whatever the hell you call it?
>>
>>30951001
Not sure what exactly it stands for, but pre-b doesn't have the firing pin block safety.

>>30947097
Wish I had more than one Pre B...
Slabs are off as I was illustrating how the hammerspring worked.
>>
>>30951001
"Pre-B" is a collector's term. It was never used by CZ. From the 70s up until about 1994, CZ produced a gun called the Model 75. After that time, they started calling them the CZ 75, and then the CZ 75B, but after about 1994, all pistols had firing pin blocks. "B" stands for "block," as in firing pin block. People still call the new guns the CZ 75, though so "CZ 75" and "Model 75" are kind of ambiguous to refer to the pre-firing pin block pistols, so "pre-B" is just the term collectors use.
>>
>>30947097

>>
>>30951099
Well I don't need your approval of my purchase.
>>
>>30951143
Seriously? Then what are you doing here?
>>
>>30951076
Some people claim that the pre-B pistols have better trigger pulls than the 75B's, but honestly, there's a lot of variation and buying a pre-B is not going to guarantee you a gun with a perfectly nice trigger. I own a pre-B with a nice and crisp trigger, but I have also owned (ended up selling) a pre-B with a trigger that was identical to the current production 75B's in the way that it had a little bit of creep and wasn't crisp when it broke. You can actually gunsmith any of these triggers to clean up that creep, but I didn't want to deal with it so I just sold it and ordered another one.

The only thing that is inherently different is that the trigger reset is shorter on the pre-B, but it's not like the 75B's reset is all that much longer. Different people will value this aspect differently.

85 is the model, same as a 75 but with ambidextrous safety and slide release. Also, Czechoslovakia was no longer a country in 95.
>>

Ah, that makes sense.
>>
>>30951224
>Also, Czechoslovakia was no longer a country in 95.
What would that even have to do with anything?
>>
>>30951175
If you're on the fence, then don't buy it. It's not a bad gun, but there are so many options out there that there's no reason to settle for a CZ 75 Compact just because /k/ is trying to meme you into the decision if you might prefer something else.

Ah, the classic Tangfolio WonderFinish.
Have you noticed any spots where Guissepe's beard hair fell into the finish? Or maybe a bit of the cacio e pepe he was having for lunch?
>>
>>30951259
It's not so much that I'm being persuaded by memes. I really like the full size cz75's and how they shoot and feel in the hand. I'm just hesitant to carry one because of the weight and size especially compared to a smaller and possibly polymer gun.
>>
>>30951338
really honestly one of the nicer finishes, believe it or not this is my EDC, so the poor girl comes in contact with my belt buckle quite a bit, and other things being an EDC, and the finish is almost as good as it was when I got it. Super minute scratches and almost unnoticeable wear.
I did notice a distinctly Italian hair, but I think it was a pube.
>>
>>30951462
The shop I used to work at got a shipment of them in and they all had tiny blemishes in the finish, like little spots of purple (eggplant parmesan) or what looked like coarse black hair or ground up 7-up bottle in the finish.
I always liked how they looked, they remind me of a Wesley Snipes movie for some reason.
>>
>>30951507
> like little spots of purple (eggplant parmesan)
kek

What a shame, I find that pretty surprising I've yet to see one with a less than impressive finish.
Positively one of my favorite guns I've ever owned. My only real issue is the very czech slide. The slide is so short, and the 10mm spring makes it very heavy. If your hands are wet/sweaty, you're fucked, you probably wont be able to pull it, but in all honesty, I like it more than my 92fs, my Sig 229, and my M&P .40.
They just don't compare to this spicy Italian cheese.

I have one as well as a 75B. I bought it at a LGS a couple of years ago. The trigger pull is nearly identical to the 75B, in spite of the decocker (which some have said changes the pull slightly). The rubber grips are pretty sweet. They don't catch on my shirt but they do collect a lot of crud. I need night sites on it, but haven't been too anxious to shell out the cash. It is a nice pistol for carry and I certainly don't feel under armed. It is considerably lighter than the steel framed guns, however the recoil isn't bad at all.

The finish on mine shows no wear and it has no machining marks under slide like many detractors constantly bitch about.

Pick one up if you like CZ75s or other da/as guns.

I just bought the blued pre-B from CDI that has the plum-colored slide. A part of me hopes that it's just a rare variant of the factory finish, but with all the nickel-plated guns coming out of Israel (many of which I'm sure are re-nickelings, like the S&W 915's I'm seeing), I kind of suspect it to be the result of a refinish. Oddly, I don't care, either way. I think it looks pretty cool, even if it isn't the factory original finish. Hopefully the gun isn't fucked up internally.

Has anyone had any problems with parts breakages on their CZ? I recently got a BD, and after hearing the horror stories of spring breakages, I decided to replace the TRS and recoil springs with CGW equivalents. Although this has alleviated some concern, I'm still worried that the gun may not be completely dependable when needed.

I have a feeling a lot of people here were looking at that gun. The auction has already lapsed once or twice without selling, but tomorrow is Friday, when a lot of guns tend to sell. I bought it with BIN just to snag it, since I won't be able to watch the auction tomorrow, and it wasn't that much more than what it would sell for if two people were bidding against each other.

I *almost* bought the Hi Power Sport they have listed, with the sharkfin front sight and beercan rear sight, but it appears to be in just too poor of condition to buy it over the internet...if I could hold it in my hands, I could confirm some things about the condition without having to guess and possibly lose on return shipping if I had to return it. I really want to pick up one of those guns, but the one I want will be the jewel of my collection, not just another surplus pile of steel.

I'd advise against it. It's a more expensive initial investment to buy a completed car but in the long run you will save money. You can literally spend years and more money than the car is worth trying to get everything period correct which I feel like you will if your as autistic about the car as you are guns. The problem with those cars (or any old car in general) is you would have to find and buy countless expensive as fuck parts that haven't been made for decades in order to get the car completed. There are a lot of modern reproduction parts for the mustang still being made but make no mistake building a car like that will take years and tens of thousands to complete.

With all the equipment for fabricating sheet metal he could virtually turn himself into his own personal armorer. The "part" that costs money is the vin tags. You gotta remember they put 428 Cobra Jets in everything Ford made for a good while. The rest of the parts are dirt cheap being everyone had rustangs back in the day. You can buy a roller fastback shell for less than 5 bills all day on the west coast. Another 15 bills in various parts and you're in at 20 on a car worth much more.

Besides that who needs to duracoat every inch of the damn frame, buy period accurate bolts and look for period-correct bias ply tires? Even the car guys don't like people like that. That's why those kinds of people end up having money and showpieces but no driving buddies. Just bitchy wino wives who talk about the "investment" cuckdaddy bought for his wife's son.

>>30952908
There's a Prowler around here that a guy uses to advertise his barbecue with lol. They're actually maintenance nightmares and make next to no power. Kind of sad they originally were going to put a blown smallblock 340 based off the 360 in the Durango with high compression heads. That thing would have hauled some SERIOUS ass. Once you get some connections made up though people will tell you where shit is. When I was growing up we had an autobody and speed shop in my back yard and there was always something to go look at. Once your reputation gets around the deals reciprocate so don't be a dick to people and share some beer now and then.
>>
>>30953212
samefaggin, but the body is the easiest part. What you can't make for cost of parts the money you saved from fabricating could go toward paying a shop. If all else fails there's always bondo and fiberglass. Either way it'll still be DRASTICALLY less than the rest of the car.
>>
>>30952844
I was originally going to bid on it, but the edge wear on the corners really told me that it saw a lot of use. Also if you look at the slide, there's a point that's stripped bare by friction on all the other CZs that was only partially done on that one. I'm sure it is a refinish, but it was properly hot blued and the bath got too hot, hence the plum. I would've been all over that shit if it were newer.

But instead, I am an absolute dumbass who overpaid on a near perfect condition model 75, so I can't say I did mcuh better

>Also if you look at the slide, there's a point that's stripped bare by friction on all the other CZs that was only partially done on that one.
I'm looking at my other blued pre-B and scanning a few other auctions in CDI's store, and I'm not sure I follow you on this point. Maybe you meant "on the frame"? Because in that case, I'd agree. On most CZ 75's that have seen holster use, I've noticed finish loss right over the MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA rollmark, and the finish loss pattern on this pistol looks a little different than I'd expect to see in that area.

Probably a refinished gun, which would explain the plum colored slide, but aside from that nasty finish loss on the left side of the frame in front of the trigger guard, the gun looks overall pretty nice. After a rub down with oil, I bet it will be very photogenic. The right side doesn't have any major blemishes, and the front and back of the grip both appear to retain full bluing.

That's a great looking pistol. I really like the glossy blued CZ 75's, but if I was going to buy a matte blue pistol, that's the one I'd get.

>I was pretty mad after having like 5 pistols sniped or BINed out from under me prior.
As an occasional Gubroker seller, I really wish I knew how to create an auction that allowed people to place bids in a no-reserve style auction, but still retained the BIN feature. Whenever I try to start an auction like that, the BIN feature goes away as soon as someone places a bid. Probably the usual Gunbroker asshole admins playing friendly with the goodle boy sellers and not giving a shit about the regular nobodys, like always. It always works out in the seller's favor to screw over unsuspecting buyers.

I'll tell you what I was really looking at, is this nickel pre-B, which actually looks good for a change. However, if you look at the backstrap of the grip, there's a huge imperfection under the finish, which led me to think that it's a renickeled gun. Looking inside the slide at that ledge that the hammer scrapes against, it shows the same characteristics, apparently from the refinish.

75B has a firing pin block. 75s made after 1993 (including all the "B" models) have an internal, captive safety detent, a slide rib, pinned front sight (earlier models were staked), ring hammer, slightly different magazine well geometry.
>>
Recently got a 75 from buds. The barrel has some discoloration on the outside. What is the best was to polish it up a bit so it doesn't look like shit? Just some emery cloth?
>>
>>30956227
>My gun club has one for rental
No it doesn't.

It's desired because it's rare. It was the original, first generation CZ-75. It's the pistol that made the CZ-75 one of the "Wonder 9s". It became one of the most most cloned and influential design on modern combat handguns world wide, right along side the hi power. The original CZ-75 was one lf the most durable pistols ever made, one of the very few that were made with forged tool steel, making it both very hard and very durable, so much so that it wore CZUB's machined to the ground and when they wanted to do mass production, they had to start making second gen pistols with cast frames and slides instead, with a redesigned beefed up front to make up for the less hard steel.

They were made in small numbers from 1975 to 1980

That's why they are desired.

>>
>>30956951
guess it depends on your size, it's really awkward to carry a full sized handgun with my frame
>>
>>30956786
This is a little exaggerated. They use the same steel now as they did then, the difference being that it's cast instead of forged. They outsourced their frame production with redesigned rails to a spanish company, and as we all know, spanish steel is shit so that didn't turn out well. Later they started casting and machining their own frames, and because casting isn't as good as forging, they kept the long rail design. It's not some absurd difference in quality.
>>
>>30957728
>They use the same steel now as they did then

The steel isn't the same, you don't use the same steel for casting that you do for forging. The Spanish castings were the worst, and the steel CZUB uses for the castings now is good, but you can't say that it's the same thing.
>>
>>30950756

It all depends on the person. If I ever get the money, I wouldn't mind paying 4 or 5 grand to have a gunsmith custom build me a break top double action revolver. I want this gun because it is in one of my favorite games. It certainly is an irresponsible use of money, but if I don't really have anything else to use it on, why not?
>>
>>30950756
There's a difference in collecting something to sell it for value and collecting something because you're interested in it. I fit into the latter, and I don't see a point in buying a gun you're never going to use. I've put a good number of scratches on my Tigr, which was virtually unfired when i got it without so much as the safety lever scratch. Call the cops. I didn't buy it to keep for 20 years and then resell. That kind of collecting is for people with no true interest in the things they collect as far as I'm concerned

Hardness (not Rockwell hardness) archived by density doesn't become brittle in comparison to just heat treating a piece of cast metal you dipshit.

A forged part that has been heat treated to the same Rockwell hardness as a cast part will be significantly more durable.

A normal CZ 75 barrel isn't polished to begin with, so he'd just be adding work when steel wool would do the job he wants done much quicker and to the same degree of polish that the barrel is already.

Also, you're retarded for removing the bluing from your barrel, which was protecting the steel. >>30956376 is talking about a barrel that's already in the white but just has some corrosion build up, likely on the end near the muzzle or on the barrel hood. If your barrel has a corrosion-resistant finish on it, you should leave it there.
>>
>>30958640
Alternatively, he could do whatever the fuck he wants with his gun. Maintaining a basic amount of oil on the surface to prevent rust is not at all difficult, and a polished barrel can add a nice touch to the looks of the pistol, as long as the rest of it is in good condition.

Although I do agree that I don't think the guy he's responding to meant polish in that way.

It's not blued, it's in the white. I emailed CZUSA about this and they confirmed it's just unfinished steel. Polish is better than no polish in this case.

From the source:
>Correct. The runs we do of carbon steel are in the white, meaning they have no surface treatment.

>>30958664
The barrel hood on mine has been polished since I got which was 2010 and it has developed zero rust on it. The barrel itself has been polished for a couple years and same story, no rust. A fine polish adds some corrosion resistance since water has a harder time penetrating the surface.

Anyway, polish is polish, if he wanted to remove rust he would have asked for tips to do so. When he said the barrel has discoloration I knew exactly what he was talking about, that shitty garbage "finish" that CZ has on the barrels. All of us should know that shit well.
>>

Most CZ 75 barrels are in the white from the factory. If you were asking them if CZ 75 barrels are generally unfinished, they would have answered as such. However, the black surface color on >>30958518 is bluing. CZ has blued barrels for specific models, like the P-01 and I believe SP-01, for years, and I believe there are a couple other models that they blue the barrels on now. For example, I noticed the new Cold War Commemorative model has a blued barrel. It wouldn't surprise me if they put a blued barrel into regular 75B's for certain years sporadically. They have been known to put CZ 75 Compact slides on the P-01 and PCR models at times.

I've had no issues with mine. If your hands get really sweaty, you might wish you had checkering up top, but I don't use this gun defensively, just for the range. I'm probably going to pick up a set of the CZCustom aluminum grips for this gun and then put the cocobolos on a 75B that I plan to buy and build up as a "pretty" gun. As far as their durability, I've had zero issues. Again tho, this gun doesn't get carried and it doesn't really get beat on too hard. I wouldn't carry it with the wooden grips just because I feel like it's guaranteed that they'd pick up some wear and tear and I'd rather avoid that with them.
>>
>>30960969
Did you have to return grip sets to CZ Custom a few times before you got a set that was more brown in color? I ordered some of their wood grips, I think they were cocobolo, and they were so red to the point of being kind of ugly.

If you want a more traditional brown color, try looking at Nill grips. They're more expensive, but their generally considered the god-tier quality for wooden grips.
