In Europe it was almost offset by the feeling that I was surrounded by people who were more scared of me than I was of them. Even the foreign ghettos I just walked around confidently and never had any real problems. People tended to get out of my way, and the few that seemed like they might mess with me changed their minds quickly.

Southern cali is MUCH worse in my mind. Not only am I by law supposed to be disarmed, but people tend to be much more aggressive, and much harder to intimidate, so the need for a weapon seems much higher.

This summer I went to Munich and then toured the alps. I only felt vulnerable in some very small parts of Munich, otherwise I was in small towns with all white people and was pretty secure.
