I saw Gods and Generals in theatres with my dad. Together we've been to almost every single Civil War battlefield and museum in the country, seen countless reenactments, watched every documentary and film about the civil war.

Really put it into perspective why there's not many movies and such about the Pacific as there is the European theatre, it was an awful, brutal, horrible war. They fought so hard for so little, it gives the viewer even a sense of hopelessness. A lot of people were expecting another Band of Brothers, and don't like the Pacific as much. I personally think it's superior.

I feel like comparing Band of Brothers and the Pacific to Saving Private Ryan or Thin Red Line is unfair. Your average movie is like an episode and a half of either show. You end up with these characters for so much longer and they can show you so much more of their struggle.

That's fair, I feel like. I think the mini series lends itself so much better to war than movies do, for that exact reason you mentioned. There's a ton of growth and little things that make the situation seem more real, and it also helps in envisioning the battlespace and overall strategy better as well.

To further call you a retard, it is demeaning to the men who survived and struggled with the sheer scale of carnage and death to write off their post war experience with "a manly upbringing". For any of them to have come home and led anything resembling a normal life must have been a Herculean effort, and in my experience they managed it by cutting themselves off from anything to do with the War or that made them think of it. What does /k/ think of the tv show The Last Ship?
I'm in the UK and while I can see that some will see it as cheesy american propaganda myself and my wife love it, the first series and some of the second really reminded me of the original series of Star Trek, the good guys and just good guys and they go about solving problems by being badass in a badass ship
