Can we get a /k/ approved tv and movies
Starting with Generation Kill
Probably the best depiction of the Invasion of Iraq

>You will never sing tainted love with your buddies
>Deal with bureaucratic bullshit
>Operate
>While riding down a bumpy foreign road
>Shooting terrorist for George dubya Bush
>And get paid to do it

Ehhhh...
I'd like to say that Saving Private Ryan has always been a favorite of mine.
Dunno if I'm gonna get flak for that.
Starship troopers is right up there with it.
>>
Why did I think that Generation Kill was about the Gulf War?

Love Generation Kill, rewatching Band of Brothers now just finished the Pacific.

Good flick, I thought it was the best thing ever in middle school but now I can watch it as just a solid WW2 movie. Big Red one is a great war movie as well. I was obsessed with war movies for a while in high school so there aren't many I haven't seen.
>>
>>30932355
There is quite a few shit movies on here, and it's missing some quality ones. What can ya do I guess

>Reign of Fire

A lot of this list is trash, who the fuck made this?

>Children of Men
The firefight scene at the end is GOAT, but not worth sitting through that shitheap of a movie t b h.
>>30932911
Make a new, not shit one? I'm getting agitated at seeing this crap picture shared around.
>>
>>30932921
Also on that list
>Passchendaele
I mean, fuck I'm a Canuck and even I can't deny that movie is trash.
>>
>>30932921
I know some of those movies are shit. Gods and Generals I mean really? That's like a grandpa tier movie that's boring even to old men. Too long and nothing of note happens. Gettysburg really isn't much better though

I did all of this 2008 to 2012. Honestly, I'd do it again if I was single and almost done with college.

Also this, just started into Strike Back. Pretty good so far.

Just because it's a bad movie or inaccurate enough to flare your autism doesn't mean you can't have fun watching it

I've never seen it but I trust your word as a Canadian
>>30932977
I saw Gods and Generals in theatres with my dad. Together we've been to almost every single Civil War battlefield and museum in the country, seen countless reenactments, watched every documentary and film about the civil war.

We fucking walked out of that movie.

Also
>Dances with Wolves
Why is that not on there? Dude goes innadesert and loses his mind, finds a waifu, and fights the gubment. Its like the perfect /k/ movie.
>>30933105
Hey you can like it, but recommending it to people who want to watch an Eastern Front movie (and presumably an accurate one, since we're on /k/) is kind of a disservice. Biggest pet peeve is it was made during the time period where all movies had non-English speaking people just talk in British accents.
>pic related
>>
>>30933256
That doesn't mean we should recommend it to people looking for /k/ (read: autistic and authentic, or so wildly ridiculous that they're great) movies, is my point.

That said I'm very happy Dredd made the cut, that entire movie is a MOUT masterpiece. That incendiary scene still gives me a chub.
>>
>>30932847
Pretty sure it's just a picture
>>
>>30933318
It's a kit bash, the actor has a doll out, somebody put gear on it. Simple as that. Super expensive too from the looks of it.
>all that effort and no SnakeDoc rolled boonie cap

>>
>>30933037
>>30933259
It's just such a hackjob of a plot, I feel like they never had other people read the script. I do wish more bits of media were about the first world war though, it's a favourite subject of mine.
>>
>>30933441
I'm reading Storm of Steel and I wish they'd make a movie out of it. Its horrendous though, the Somme bit truly seemed like absolute hell on earth.
>>
>>30933448
The problem with Jünger is that he's a hardcore motherfucker, and he's also German. I guarantee that your average movie goer would think that makes him a Nazi.
>>
>>30929842
>Generation Kill
Depressing and boring
>>
>>30933571
I know, and that saddens me. People are too fucking stupid to differentiate.

And Junger is a fucking badass, and there's more humor than I expected honestly.
>tying cans to the British lines wire in the dead of night, then yanking on them with a string and scaring the fuck out of Bobby
Balls of Steel, more like.
>>
Anything Pierre Schoendoerffer made. You should be able to find it with English subs. The Anderson Platoon has a full English release afaik.
>>
>>30930432
The Unit has Female Plot Cancer Syndrome and that's a damn shame.
>>
Thin Red Line

not just my favourite war movie, it's my favourite movie full stop.
It's the only film i've seen that comes close to really capturing the absurdity of combat and it's effect on soldiers.

>>
>>30933792
Eh, the Pacific did that better honestly. The confusion, the brutality, the casual atrocity and cruelty. I don't know how any of them lived through that shit, or functioned after.

Really put it into perspective why there's not many movies and such about the Pacific as there is the European theatre, it was an awful, brutal, horrible war. They fought so hard for so little, it gives the viewer even a sense of hopelessness. A lot of people were expecting another Band of Brothers, and don't like the Pacific as much. I personally think it's superior.
>>
>>30933760
Meh I didn't really give a shit, it was comic relief lulz
>>
>>30933919
>I don't know how any of them lived through that shit, or functioned after.
Back then men ware raised to be manly, not to be fags.
The movies and tv-series promoted masculinity, not faggotry.
That's how.

>>
>>30933919
>the Pacific did that better
I feel like comparing Band of Brothers and the Pacific to Saving Private Ryan or Thin Red Line is unfair. Your average movie is like an episode and a half of either show. You end up with these characters for so much longer and they can show you so much more of their struggle.
>>
>>30933983
>namefags in charge of being retarded as usual
Eugene Sledge was incredibly fucked up when he got back, and so were a great many other soldiers. It has nothing to do with masculinity of manliness
>>30934015
Kek
SNAFU was a sick fuck, I loved it
>>30934242
That's fair, I feel like. I think the mini series lends itself so much better to war than movies do, for that exact reason you mentioned. There's a ton of growth and little things that make the situation seem more real, and it also helps in envisioning the battlespace and overall strategy better as well.
>>
>>30933983
To further call you a retard, it is demeaning to the men who survived and struggled with the sheer scale of carnage and death to write off their post war experience with "a manly upbringing". For any of them to have come home and led anything resembling a normal life must have been a Herculean effort, and in my experience they managed it by cutting themselves off from anything to do with the War or that made them think of it. Bottling up or suppressing it, in other words.
>>
>>30933105
I liked it when the fucked but not much else desu
>>
>>30932093
>Windtalkers
Oh please be joking.

Outside from that this seems like a pretty great list. All I'd add is Stalingrad and Generation kill.
>>
What does /k/ think of the tv show The Last Ship?
I'm in the UK and while I can see that some will see it as cheesy american propaganda myself and my wife love it, the first series and some of the second really reminded me of the original series of Star Trek, the good guys and just good guys and they go about solving problems by being badass in a badass ship

Maybe green berets if you want to see them try to pass of clearly American forests as Vietnam or want to watch John Wayne fire an M16 holding it upside down.
