Us Navy swapping out Type 1 NWUs "blueberries" for Type 3 NWUs by October 2019. Transition begins October of this year.

Thoughts on design?

Also general military camo thread.
>>
It's vertical AOR, which is basically greener MARPAT, which was basically browner CADPAT.

Its a woodland digital camo. It works. Actual differences in effectiveness between various patterns in this family are negligible in practical use and most just an academic debate online.
>>
>>30901582
I hope USAF will change soon. Tired of these ABUs

I'm holding off buying some stuff as well because I feel the change is coming soon.

Personally I wish we just went to a Solid OD green uniform with velcro areas for patches. It grinds my gears that flyers are the only ones able to have unit pride. The rest of us just get to look like scrubs. Realistically the best we can hope for is the Army's Scorpion pattern but without the stupid center rank and silly ACU design.

To be honest I'm surprised the Joint Chiefs have been able to defy that single camouflage bill they passed a while back
>>
>>30901677
Those boots are fucked.
Yeah if we could just have a solid green, and a solid tan/desert two piece flight suit/solid color ACU cut with minimal pockets I'd be happy as hell.

The current OCP ACU uniform sizing is super fucky, long as fuck sleeves and legs. I roll my sleeves twice under to get the same sleeve length as one roll in ABUs.
>>
>>30901696
Also there's way too much fabric. I'm about to cut out all my inner pockets and sew in mesh pocket liners instead. A little ventilation and if you've looked at a pair of the OCP pants inside out you'll wonder why there's so much pocket fabric. Doubled up knee area makes sense somewhat, not so much the elbows.

Against all advice im probably going to slightly tailor my uniform to actually fit a human body, not pvt knuckledragger.

I seriously hate the ACU cut. I wore them for a bit as well and they are huge and shapeless. They make everyone look like a strangely colored duffel bag. The ABUs aren't much better. I don't know how they managed to screw it up, but the legs and sleeves are much larger and need to be tailored to look non retarded.

The center rank is just lame in my opinion. I don't know why its become so popular. I do like the marine cut of uniform. They deleted the bottom pockets on the blouse and still use collar insignia.
>>
>>30901714
I tailor my uniforms, but I don't go out in the field much or at all. If you're in the army I would try to get my hands on some of the Nomex Pilot ACUs or whatever the new pattern is called. Nomex is comfy as fuck.

Honestly unless EVERYONE uses collar insignia it fucking sucks.I just want insignia that tells me if I need to even acknowledge this persons existence. Why am I trying to figure out if you're a fucking specialist or lt col for so ducking long.

I'm not near a marine base or I'd pick up some surplus marpat pants for hunting. They definitely have a better fitting uniform. It's such a ridiculous situation that the army spent so much on uniform development and didn't get it figured out and the Marines went from BDUs straight to marpat on the cheap. If they weren't such cocky fuckers I'd be proud of them.

>>30901745
We should all be in nomex, holds the pattern better from what I've seen and I agree it's more comfy. Cotton would be fine if we werent covered in a million layers and sweating dick.

Saw a guy the other day at the store wearing some form of digital camo I didn't recognize. Was somewhere between woodland and desert in colors, but I can't for the life of me now remember the shades. His boots were a darker brown than the usual light tan that I see issued. And for the sake of argument, I only saw his left side and back, but noticed no patches of any sort. Was it possible this was just some stolen valor prick with a generic "made in china" camo? I should have grabbed a picture because now it's bugging me for no reason.
>>
>>30902320
Might have been Italian.
>>
>>30902320
>no patches
>stolen valor
>>
>>30901603

I asked Sec James at one of her base visits and she said they won't even address the issue until the ABU hits ten years (2020,because in her opinion the ABU is very young in it's service life) and then they'll look at it. She did say whatever uniform is next will definitely have enlisted stripes on the sleeves...just to keep us different and becasue of our "heritage" :(
>>
>>30902347
Well he was picking up a prescription, and I don't know if the military is given any sort of discount on those. Only reason I see someone going out in uniform like that is either for attention, or they're legit. But it's SW PA, and I only see airmen from the 911th and 171st air wings, and the occasional soldier from the army but wearing UCP which this wasn't. And it wasn't any form of marpat because it had more color than desert, but was lighter browns and greens than the woodland. I've never seen navy around regularly, but when they are on rare occasions it's that dark blue camo. Just figured he was trying to get a discount on something.
>>
>>30902401
Or he could've been out hunting...
>>
>>30902362
>her

Well there you go.
>>
>>30902415
If it was in a different part of the area I'd say maybe, but it'd be all fudds wearing real tree or mossy oak. This area has the occasional fudd, but they still stick with their usual hunting camos, and don't go full autismo matching uniforms and boots. I'm just trying to figure out what the hell pattern (if even real) it was.
>>
>>30902362
Cool for asking. I dislike the ABU, but so be it. I have a lot of respect for Debra James. However the next secretary of the Air Force may feel different. I also do not mind NCO sleeve stripes. They look cool IMO and are in fact part of our heritage.

Nomex is not comfy
In the summer, it doesn't breath, and gets way too hot. In the winter it acts like it's not even there.
It's miserable for the most part of the year. The only thing they are good for, is to keep you from catching on fire for about 5 seconds.
In the hot climate, I get away with wearing vintage surplus cotton flight suits. Much much better.

We used to. I think it mostly boils down to the marines switching first and everyone else scrambling to look "distinctive" and cool in order to get recruits and satisfy egos. Once the marines showed it was acceptable to break ranks in uniform, everyone else jumped in too.

Nearly every service member I've spoken with has agreed that we should all share the same uniform. Its an issue at the top it seems.
