I don't know how much use it would be above ground, but at least you know it's water proof.

Plenty of guns worked fine in southeast asian wet season, the pacific islands campaigns in WW2, the ypres salient in WW1.

You'd probably have to look harder to find a gun that wouldn't work, as long as there was some basic maintenance and care.

It get more complicated when you go back to black powder weapons, if its always been that rainy maybe early guns would have been so worthless guns might not have been really developed in such a setting.

I'd personally want a simple bolt action rifle with a parkerized barrel and action. For a shotgun, I'd want a pump since I can slam the buttstock on the ground if it jams. Can't go wrong with a Mossberg 500. I think Savage makes a weather resistant rifle. Weather warrior series maybe? I'm not too well versed in Savage firearms.

Thanks for all the ideas! Any ideas for something more like a sidearm? The goal is for the character to have a way to defend himself properly, but still not be very immediately threatening. A big rifle might not deliver that.

Yeah, I could see air rifles being developed. They would not be superior in these conditions to modern firearms, but if its always been rainy then firearms might have been overlooked as a viable weapon and never developed into something all weather capable.

As I said earlier, pretty much anything works as long as he doesn't leave it in a mud puddle. Only the very shittiest of modern guns dont work wet conditions.
