OP if you can find a colt series 70, that would be the most "true" 1911 you can get.

Big players are ruger sr1911, taurus pt1911 (bad quality control rumors), and for smaller budgets look at RIA

If you see AMT, run fast in the opposite direction

I meant specifically from the Colt manufacturer. The models that get imported here are Rail Gun, Government XSE, Government Series 70, Government Series 1991, Government Competition Series, the Gold Cup ones, Delta Elite and Combat Elite.

The series 70 is the most "authentic"/original
The government 1911 (aka series 80) has the same aesthetic and style as a ww2-era 1911, very classic, but a few internal changes to make it drop safe

The others are all more modernized with extended controls and more practical sights, the gold cup and competition pistols are freakishly accurate and marketed to target shooters

The rail gun is probably closest to "combat pistol" but i think the rail is sort of ugly. They should all be fairly reliable, although 1911s are notoriously finicky, factory colt handguns usually run OK

Alright, thanks for the info. I'm nowhere near good enough shooter to notice a difference in accuracy I assume, so the gold cup ones are out of the question since they are a bit more expensive.
