if you got the money go for an M1A or a Mini-14.

However as an ARES shill I'm gonna recommend getting an SCR lower and then getting a good deal on an AR-15 upper. You'll get the benefits of the AR-15 and bypass all the new laws thanks to the lower's featureless design (no pistol grip primarily).

You can have a detachable magazine if you remove all 'evil' features from a rifle. That means no pistol grip, forward grip, adjustable stock and you are limited to a muzzle brake. No flash hider or compensator for you.

Where do you live OP?
I'd recommend getting an AR15. Primary arms has Anderson AR15s for $499 with a few bullet button installation. Find a good (cheap) FFL, and browse eBay for a KAC BUIS or get a Magpul Mbus and you've got it out the door for under $700.

What are you fags recommending featureless rifles to him for? The AWB doesn't take effect until January and any rifles owned/bought before then will be grandfathered in with the caveat that you register them as an RAW (registered assault weapon, though all newly purchased rifles are registered as of 01/01/14) but the added of bonus of being able to run it unneutered (no bullet button, all the scary salt features you can desire, but still only 10 round mags)

tl;dr You still have another 5 or 6 months to buy an AR and you'll get to uncuck it come January, so just buy a fucking lower or three and git.
