Why do countries by the F/A18 when they don't plan to use

Longer legs would be my guess. The Viper is pretty short range without drop tanks or aerial refueling.

The Hornet is arguably better set up than the Viper, especially in terms of avionics. Those massive displays are really nice. The F-15 doesn't always have what people want, and it can be expensive. The Hornet is just solid all around
