So I have a bit of money saved up for a rifle and I'm not going to be able to buy another gun for a while. I really can't decide between an AR-15 or a milsurp bolt-action. On one hand the AR will give me something I can tinker with without blowing too much cash but on the other hand milsurp stuff is probably just going to keep getting more expensive. Pic related is an enfield a guy in my area is selling on armslist

if i was you i might try to get an SKS

Any specific reason? I mean I know it's a good rifle but I don't see any use for it that an AR or bolt action wouldn't have

What do you want to do with it? AR's are probably gonna temporarily go up as November nears. People are inevitably gonna panic.

its just what i personally would do, but their price is going up so now would be the time to buy, AR will be around a long time but milsurp is drying up

Get the AR, the enfield is nice and i regret selling mine, but unless you dont mind throwing extra dosh to feed it or reload for it, dont get it.

>the AR will give me something I can tinker with without blowing too much cash
You say that now.

I want it for a SHTF gun. I already have a Winchester Model 12 for HD and a Marlin Model 60 for practicing marksmanship

Yeah I'm sure I'll put a lot of money into it in the long run but I won't have to use a big chunk of cash in one go like I will if I'm buying new guns

Not OP but I have an sks question
I'm looking into getting babby's first gun and I found an SKS
Norinco
Original stock
Buttersmooth action
Sights are good (not cantered or anything)
The guy wanted 475 for it. I was thinking 400.
Would 450 be a fair price for it?

As someone who owns several of both, buy the AR. It's just cheaper to shoot...
You can always get a Lee -Enfield - they made about 7million of them iirc. No chance they will get a permanent ban as soon as AR15's will either...
Good luck

Then AR hands down. It's an infinitely more practical option than a milsurp bolt action and you'll have no issue finding mags, ammo, replacement parts, and other people to share those parts with in an SHTF scenario.
