I never hear much about these on /k/? Whats the consensus on them? Do they perform as well as the original SVD?

I live in CT so there are only so many modern guns I can buy that don't have to be absolutely neutered before I get my hands on them.
>>
>>30759097
They were OK when they were cheap
They don't measure up to an SVD at all. Get a VEPR in 54R if that's what you want
>>
PSLs have been known to have varying degrees of accuracy, and reliability. Contrary to the appearance, a PSL is not an SVD clone. You'd be better off with a Vepr.
>>
>>30759141
>>30759132

I just hate how the sporterized look of the VEPRs. How easy would it be to throw an SVD wood kit on one of those.
>>
>>30759132
>>30759141
What they said. They were a good deal back when they were $7-800, nowadays they have gotten so expensive it's not worth it. Their pencil barrel heats up quickly and you can't use the more accurate heavy ball without beating the receiver to shit. A x54r VEPR is a far better choice

Like already said, they ain't SVDs by any sort of metrics, but they kinda look alike to the untrained eye, and fill the similar role in combat. These things are actually one of the more common causes of deaths in the middle eastern theaters, alongside with the IEDs.

If you dig the looks and idea of an oversized AK that shoots big 54R round, go for it. But like those two Anons mentioned above, the VEPR is a pretty good alternative these days. Yes, there's SVD -like furniture sets for them, and tons of tacticool kits as well.
>>
Is there anywhere you're reasonably able to find a Vepr of PSL in CT, or a gun store that will actually do the transfer?

Greater New Haven area here and none of the shops I've been to want to do a transfer unless it's for some fudd shit, nor do they cary much in the way of semi-automatic rifles that's not a .22, M1 or Mini-14/30.

The very first ones imported into the country were Romanian rifles. Later ones were constructed from parts kits here in the US. The earlier rifles tend to be nicer. I bought my Romanian rifle for $375 and my later Century built parts kit rifle for $600. Both I feel were worth every penny and I wish I had bought more when I had the chance. Nowadays, they are way too expensive. I haven't seen one for less than $1500 for a long time. Most are clearly sellers hoping to take advantage of ignorant buyers who can't differentiate between the PSL and SVD.

I went through a 6 month process of going between the vepr and psl. The vepr is the objectively better rifle.

Anyone know how long it takes for a rhinewood arms stock to come in? Ordered it like two weeks ago.

Can't help for CT man but I do hope you find one. I'm planning to put my VEPR on the market soon due to emergency expenses I haven't planned soon. But I'm in commiefornia at the moment so I don't know if they'll accept out of state transfers.
>>
>>30759245
no idea, but if the stores are dragging on you, you could try looking up those Super Veprs, which have a tad more sportier looks.

Some people have altered those to be even NY legal.

Everything has pretty much been covered in this thread. No more $800 deals in shotgun news, nobody making cheap 8mm either. The heyday of the PSL has passed but at least some cool shit came out of it. Like one company that did carbine conversion and 20 rounds mags, lahti mags, drum conversions etc

"Most orders are cut to order, due to the large variety of options and wood types that we offer."

They're not that big of a company at that, just wait. Don't be that guy who sends an email every other week asking for updates and ETAs, that just pisses people off.

I want your magazine.
These suckers are damn expensive AND hard to find in my area.

Took my babe to a hunting trip last fall.
Didn't get anything that time.
>>
>>30759387

IMHO only if you had them before.
>>
>>30759352
At least a confirmation would have been nice besides. "PayPal has sent payment" and nothing else otherwise.
>>
>>30759394
Wish I could say that was my vepr. It's from my inspiration folder when I was initially falling in love with them.
How was hunting with it? What kind of scope Iso that? What ammo do you usually run in your .308.
>>
>>30759397

I'm noguns, looking to get a pistol maybe but there's a 10 round limit for all mags.
>>
>>30759387

Not really. I always wanted an AR 15 but if you manage to find a pre ban one, gun stores are gonna fuck you for 2-3grand and whats the point of having it if you can only have a 10 round magazine now because of salt clips killin muh chilluns. Not to mention, pre-ban ones are still gonna have pinned stocks, fake flash hiders, etc.

Now excuse me while I continue trying to find 10round mags for my fucking cz75.
>>
>>30759473
Get a 10mm then. If you're restricted on capacity make bigger holes per whot.
>>
>>30759431
Shit, I was actually looking at Ironwood, which is what I read that as. Looking on Rhinewood, they say they are running at part time during the summer, but they say after that emails and shipping should only be about a week. Go ahead and shoot them an email then.
>>
>>30759512
>>30759431

Er, that's actually for RhineLAND.... Which did you mean? I should probably go to sleep...
>>
>>30759473

I could e wrong because it did t apply to me, since I had the permit before, but as I understand it the new law is;
>To purchase a firearm you need either a pistll permit
>OR
>A long gun eligibility permit

To get these you need to go to the class obviously. Probably not too hard.
The problem is the state is so bottle necked atm, you could be looking at 4-8 MONTHS before getting your permit. Anecdotal evidence I suppose but my friend took 7 months to get his, his wife said it took her 9, and most of my friends are reporting 4-5 months. The state is reluctant, at best, to hand out permits. If you had a gun before the ban (at 18) you'll need to be like my brother and get yourself an ammunition card, which lets you buy ammo. There's not even sale of ammo without ID anymore, and I could be wrong, but the long gun certificate doesnt cover ammo purchases I think.

Pistol wise we actually have a fair crop of choices but everything is, of couse, 10 round limit (well, 10+1).
>>
>>30759498

I was thinking maybe a 1911, since there seems to be a huge aftermarket for them.
>>
>>30759580
There are 10mm 1911s. The Colt Delta Elite is a good one.
>>
>>30759394
just making sure you know about csspec magazines for your 308? metal 20 rounders are nice to have
>>
>>30759097
axxuracy is shit honestly just get like an hk417 scar or remington for accuracy

>Whats the consensus on them?
Pic related is my entire sight-in on my 4x scope, so you can guess what I think of them.
/k/ will tell you they're shit or too expensive, because they love to regurgitate overblown rumors mixing US built horror stories with the better cugir built models, and can't get over the fact that they used to be half the price. They do the same argument with the sks and nuggets.
>Do they perform as well as the original SVD?
Overall, use shit ammo, get shit performance. Find what it likes best. LVE headstamped commercial and factory 188 russian is the good for me.
>>
>>30759097
Even a Nugget is more accurate than a PSL

A. NUGGET.
>>
Piss poor weapon system. Mine had so many issues with headspacing and what not and eventually a round exploded in it and caused a hole in the right of the receiver. Fuck these. Sold it as a parts kit in the end.
>>
>>30763731
Yeah but at least you don't need a 2x4 to cycle the action on a PSL.
>>
>>30763731
A good nugget should be better than an svd, psl, or vepr.
It's a bolt action, big surprise there.
>>
>>30763738
A bolt-action is not inherently better or more accurate than a semi-auto
>>
>>30763750
Without going any deeper, we're not talking precision built $5000 semi autos here. These are loose military rifles.
>>
>>30759462
Hunting was alright. Got no game that day tho'.
The scope's adjustable 3-9x basic cross-type thing, that came with the gun.

I tend to use basic 8 gram FMJ ammo, though I've got some 9,3 gram shots too.

>>30759973
yeah, well aware of them.
However, they don't ship their stuff to EU. And the legit Molot Vepr mags, even the 10 rounders, go for whooping 125€ here.
>>
>>30759132
Funny, everything on /k/ is great when it's cheap. But when the price rises suddenly it sucks and you shouldn't buy it.
>>
>>30759272
Mine took about a month.

I was starting to think they lost my order, but it came.
>>
>>30764834
It's called "value". For example, if a 5.56 SCAR cost $300, it would be worth buying it over an AR. They're not, so people don't.
>>
>>30764834
/k/ is full of teenagers, college students, and poorfags.
>>
>>30764834
It's almost as if they're comparing it on a price vs. function metric
>>
>>30765092
Gun "collecting" has never been reliant solely on price vs function arguments.
Yes, you can get a vepr54r for half the price, but if you only bought it because you wanted a psl or svd etc, you've still wasted your money somewhat because it has neither the military history or all the cool factor you were probably after.
