I want an AK platform rifle. I don't want to spend more than $900 out the door.

What the fuck do I get? Also, I want it in 7.62.
>>
WASR or a used Arsenal if you can find one under $900
>>
WASR, DDI. If you can find an Arsenal for $900 then snag it.
>>
just get a Century
>>
I.O.
>>
WASR and use the saved money on a case of ammo.

no
>>
>>30742361
WASRs, DDI, Convert a Saiga for 7.62, there are Veprs, or you can get an AMD-65 from Classic Firearms
>>
>>30742361
Build one, son.
>>
>>30742633
How?

>>30742384

I heard WASRs were utter shit.

there is no reason to go more expensive than WASR. the AK is an outdated platform so I wouldn't spend more than I'd need to on it
>>
>>30742922
they've gotten better recently.
>>
>>30742633
>>30742922
Don't listen to that dingus. Building an AK is only cheaper if you already have the tools and the know how. You're more likely to break even than save anything unless you build at least 2 rifles.

WASR-10/63 (make sure it has a scope mount, the old bad ones didn't).

Yugo PAP of some sort (these don't take standard AK furniture though, so if that's important consider that)

AMD-65 or AMD-63 (the furniture sucks a bit but it can be replaced if necessary, I've heard of the odd sharp edge but nothing some fine grit can't fix).

Because everyone has a fucking 10 ton press in their garage and access to all the individual parts and tools necessary to do that.

They used to be quite bad, but they were retooled and Century got a bit of their shit together (at least for this), the telltale sign of an old WASR-10 is the lack of the left-side scope-mount.
Look at pic related, see that mount above the pistol grip there? If that's there it's a new one and it's ok.

In contrast, there's the RAS-47, which is largely made by Century themselves, and it's a rattly and brittle deathtrap with a lifespan at about 1000rds, shittiness an old WASR couldn't hope to achieve if it tried.
>>
>>30743149
how many rounds would a WASR last? 5000?
>>
>>30743996
As much as an average AK.

The RAS47 really is an outlier, the build quality is unbelievably shitty for any kind of weapon, some of them are handbombs, as the barrel trunnion is a cast piece, and this isn't really done correctly at all times.
>>
>>30743996
There are videos of people with over 13000 shooting them just fine.
If you pick up a wasr, hold it in your hands and look at all of the rivets and they are all good, you practically have arsenal quality in terms of durability.
And for the most part that's what you'll get, you might not get extreme accuracy(it's very possibly, my wasr and akou4774habe had very good accuracy out of them) as you will get from a. Higher end ak but the durability is there.

I have an Interarms High Standard. Seems to be largely ignored, but I've had excellent experiences with it.
>>
900 !?!?!?!

I remember buying two AKs, both for under 500 and that included clips and what-not. When did they shoot up to double price??
>>
>>30744706
When Obama got elected

And strangely AR prices have gone down
>>
>>30744689
That's because there were plenty reports of keyholing from some of them, I think people figured out that the ones that weren't coming from atlantic(they were built to the distributors standards, not a base standard from the manufacturer) were built with the wrong barrels, they had a different twist rate or something.
But because of the bad rep, they just kind of fell off of the map. Still wouldn't get one because I don't know where the one I was getting came from.
>>
>>30744715
Ar prices went down after shady gook,
And that was because manufacturers realized how much people actually wanted ARs
>>
>>30744727
How long ago was that? It's fairly recent that I got into AKs so I never saw anything like that.
I got mine from an LGS, Hungarian, everything works fine.

Just pick up an SKS for like 300 bucks, doa magazine mod on it and call it a day.

It will save you a few hundred bucks so when you realize that the ak47 is entirely worthless for civilian purposes, even hunting deer or some shit, you wont be entirely void of money.

I'm pretty sure the reports were from like 2008-09, like I said, they got better but they fell off of the map because nobody wanted anything from a rifle that has the chance that it will keyhole.
