This might be a strange question, but if you could only own one gun and it had to be a bolt-action rifle, which would it be?

Anything in .30. The bore is small enough you can light load a 100gr cast bullet for small game and then some for large game.
Specific rifle would be a mauser

While I own an AI AT myself, I'd say that if you can only own one bolt gun, you'd be better off with the AXMC instead since it'd allow for quick changing from .338LM to .300WM to .308Win.
Barrett M95 so I can shoot down police helicopters.
A GA Precision fbi hrt rifle. Costs about as much as I'll ever spend on guns for the foreseeable future and is about as useful as I can get out of a bolt action. They're local, too.

>>30675644
>>30675644
I'm inclined to agree with you. The Model 70 Super Grade is one of the all-around nicest bolt action rifles I've ever fired, perhaps the nicest. Remington, Savage, Weatherby, CZ, Mauser, etc. just don't seem to do it for me like a fine Model 70 with really good wood on it. I even had a featherweight one in .223 that my Dad glass bedded, free floated, and set the trigger weight to just over 3lbs. It had a 6-24X Weaver on it. With Black Hills ammo it would shoot just over 1/2 MOA, and I could take prairie dogs at 400 yards from the prone all day long. Selling that rifle is one of my biggest regrets.
For those of use who live west of the Mississippi, a Model 70 Super Grade in .270 winchester is probably the best deer rifle ever made, and in .25-06 is one of the finest setups for pronghorn out there.
Another fucking awesome thing is that you can disassemble the bolt in the field without tools, should it ever ice up. Can't do that with a Remington 700.

Yeah that's what I'm planning on getting for my next rifle. I would otherwise buy a Winchester but unfortunately they're no longer made in America (which is kind of important for me, at least as far as hunting rifles go) and even though FN has improved their quality a lot it's still not as good as what they used to make.
Plus Montana Rifle Company offers their guns in a shitload of calibers so I can get the special snowflake rifle in 6.5x55 Swedish for deer and blackbear hunting.
