Fuck me, I don't know what's real.
>>
>>30666993
The German army test involved magdumping 300 rounds back to back and resulted in the gun melting, which would never ever happen in a real world combat situation, partly because nobody magdumps or even really use full auto, and partly because the rounds fired much exceeded the German soldiers combat load. The gun certainly fails at an earlier point than its competitors, as an M4 will generally fail at 400-600 rounds back to back, but because its not a situation that will ever arise naturally, it doesn't really mean anything for either gun. Acting like its some sort of damning strike against the gun is basically the rifle equivalent of the glockenade meme.
Other than that, believe what you want.
>>
>>30667033
Well the issue did arise in the first place somehow. Maybe weakening of the receiver leads to eventual loss of zero even if it never quite reaches the temperature to fail.
>>
>>30667033
You know what proofing rounds are? You test guns beyond their normal operation. In part this is to gind a limit, but in part because if it survives utter bullshit you can throw at it, it's rocksolid for normal use. Somewhere around 300 rounds it melts, so between 0-300 rounds, IE combat, it could still experience thermal issues.

Kraut here.

The overheat meme was started by our current Minister of Defence who has less military and weapon experience than a Californian soccer mom.

She is being paid by H&K's competitors cause they want to force a new service gun on the Bundeswehr for the delicious tax money profits.

Studies and interviews with soldiers stationed in Afghan showed the rifle just gets hot like any other rifle when being fired, and does not reach any unusual heat levels, nor does the accuracy suffer under normal operations.

tl;dr this is what happens when you let the former Minister of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth be the new Minister of Defence.
Which in turn was a political decision to sink her, as the Ministry of Defence is a shit show where incompetent politicians are parked to die.

Cause Ministry of Defences here all are filthy swamps of lobbying and corruption just like the Pentagon, but without the will to actually get working toys for the billions they burn.

And defence is usually connected to old white dudes, so the PR guys in the parties and weapon manufacturers want a smiling soccer mom to "bring fresh wind into the old crusty structures".
>>
>>30667197
She came into office when this was already a topic in the media and to prove that she is able to deal with problems she ditched the gun.
>>
>>30667304
Before she came into office it was just the usual "our toys are better than your toys" rumors spread by competing weapon manufacturers.
But when she decided to get rid of the rifles without any major studies proving those claims, the issue became a major topic.
You don't see a MoD declare THE modern German rifle to be shit every day.
It was a marketing campaign now fought by volunteer fanboys on both sides who ignore independent studies and just cherry pick biased ones supporting their narratives.

>>
Aren't they upgrading all their G36's to MG36 specs?
>>
>>30667033
Can you sauce the 300 rounds? As far as I know the report was never made public.
I doubt a regular DI gun takes as much ammo as the G36 without the gas tube exploding and I'm pretty sure any wood furniture on an AK is gonna at least smoke if not burn.
Apart from that, during my time at the Bundeswehr (only mandatory service) I was issued with four 30 round magazines. Not that they ever gave me that much ammo, but the best I could have dumped was 120 rounds.
Also consider the fact that a regular G36 (with red dot and 4x scope) weighs about 300g more than a SCAR-L without red dot/scope.
As the Bundeswehr is mostly carrying around their guns, weight is certainly more important than having LMG like performance.

Civilian market? Sell off to Norway? Police forces? What do?
>seeing militia's running around with G36's

Surely they are too valuable to be scrapped or salvaged for parts. No?
>>
>>30668066
>Surely they are too valuable to be scrapped or salvaged for parts. No?

You're misunderstanding the concept of 'value added'.

From the perspective of a Gov't, spending a comparable pittance to deny the use or possession of weapons like that to its peons would be money well spent vs selling off the weapons complete or as pieces for a modest profit.

>paid by H&K's competitors
There are no competitors to HK in germany. HK supplies EVERYTHING the german army uses (as small arms are concerned) and that's not even hyperbole. The most likely successor to the G36 is the 416. The only other producers of combat rifles in germany are some obscure producers of civilian Ar15 and Sig Sauer. None of these have the institutional or financial power to influence the ministry of defence or the media. This whole conspiracy theory is bollocks.

The simplest explanation for the differing reports (in my opinion) is that the G36 did have a problem, HK silently fixed it and now denies it ever existed.
>>
>>30668976

>Old rifles sit in a depot where they're never shot

Also, I already explained why HK has no competitors, in germany at least, and certainly none that could possibly rig media and official german studies in such a way.

I had several issues with the g36, like an butterlike hanguard after ca 4 magazines on semi mode and an broken stock holding button after hitting an tree with the stock while chrouching to a trench in basic's. In my opinion it is also loud as fuck if you run or move i.g. linke an babyrattle. But,exept the overall problems with 5.56 guns, its an accepteble easy to use weapon.

Picture somewhat related: mantarget with Holmes Form p1/38, p8 and the French service pistol whose Name i never remember. G3, mg3, g36 and famas. In the target are several 5,56 Hits wich show how easy this caliber is distracted by Wind and that on a range with hig earthwalls to each side

>The holes , wich look like someone tried to Stab the target with a pocketknive, are the ones i ment.

You get keyhole shaped hits like that on every military range regardless of the caliber, clever guy.
They're the result of rounds from rifles/MGs hitting the ground, improvised targets (old vehicles) and such, destabilizing and continuing on an unpredictable trajectory.
The buzzing sound you sometimes hear when you send a MG burst downrange are rapidly spinning ricochets. If you're really unlucky or if someone uses steel targets without taking this into consideration, they can (and do) end up right where you stand at the firing line, in your face.

You are totaly right, that could happen with every caliber if the bullets riccoche, i' ve should write about this possibility and that in this specifc case there were no riccochets.(liing Position, target above ground fixed at the frame usally used to shoot rings on paper because this Kind oft target in it normal holder falls back after one hit ,just me and two others shooting and no shooting at the same time.
