>Do any of you actually shoot your rifles?

Not really. I did just get back from the range shooting my ar that I cannot zero for the life of me. I probably have a total of ~150 rounds through it (and that's being generous) and have owned it for 2 years.

Not part of /arg/ and just skim through the threads at people's rifles. That being said, I REALLY suck shit at shooting rifle. Like 4 inch groups at 25 yards prone.
>From what I have seen you take out loans to build these and use them a paperweights.

I do admit I buy things that I don't neccesarily need at the moment like a
>D3 sling
>ADM 1/3rd mount with a PA micro
>now a freefloat handguard and light

Sometimes I question why the fuck I even bother with a rifle and not just getting a 590A1 with a light.

I try to perfect my fundamentals like proper prone position, breathing, trigger pull but I always get disgusting groups.

What really fucks me is how people are able to see what they're pointing at. I constantly hear about people getting sub moa groups at 100 with nothing but irons and I just don't know how they do it. At 50 yards, I can't see the bullseye since my front sight covers the entire thing and I don't know where I was aiming at when I get back on target.

X300 Ultra is pretty good if you could only have one light. You can use it for a pistol and both a rifle. Say you have it on your pistol, slide it off and put it on a 1913 rail on your rifle.

Currently only own an X300 Ultra but I'm thinking of getting a front sight setup like this so I can also use my X300 on both my AR and P226.

What's nice about this setup is that your light is ambidextrous and isn't obscured if you're shooting from cover with the light being still in cover.

Just something to consider.
>>
>>30608433
Oh alright. Who besides me even got one the previous run?

But yeah dude, the normie friends of mine who see it think it's cool as shit even though they don't know what is the meaning behind it
>>
>>30608203
Dude, set yourself up comfy, you need a rest of some sort, back pack sandbags etc. Try borrowing a spotting scope and set it up next to you. Now get your target and think to yourself, what distance do I sight this in at? 50 yards most likely. Afterward, load your Mag and chamber a round. Put it on safe, acquire the front sight and center it with your rear aperture just perfectly. Hold that position, burn it into your mind, then take the safety off and squeeze, don't pull on the trigger. If you have a stock trigger you'll feel the grit. Get familiar with it at home. Just squeeze it. Learn the point that it breaks. Once you've squeezed enough it'll go bang, let it surprise you a bit, but don't flinch. Remember also that when squeezing the trigger, don't use too much or too little finger. It can affect the point of impact. Now look through your spotting scope. Where did you hit? Low? Adjust the front sight, to the left? Adjust the rear. Do this till your rounds are hitting where you aim (center bull's-eye). If done properly you'll notice that you're walking them in! Once you have that down, attach your optic and cowitness it if able. Keep practicing proper technique, and you'll shoot good groups in no time. Even with a mosin! (If I missed something please let me know).

Guess what people lie. I'm not a great shot. I can get 10/10 on a 5inch target at 100yards with my scope. I've been told to "just sell my or rifle" and that I should be able to do better with irons. The race is long and end the end it's only with yourself.

That might be a good strategy. I myself have a cowitnessed sight so it was never an issue, but if I were in your place, I'd probably do what you suggested. What might help also is the type of ammo you use. Make sure it's brass, and that it's not 2-4 moa tier stuff. If it can be helped, to for 2moa stuff at most.

Dry fire until your finger bleeds, surprise yourself with the break of the trigger. You can get a thinner front sight post if you're really worried about covering the target, or do a 6 o'clock hold.

Alternatively, start at 20 yards and go further and further out until you're more comfortable.
>>
>>30608520
>What might help also is the type of ammo you use.

I shoot Federal XM193 with a 1:7 barrel if that matters.

>>
>>30608496
1/3 cowitness covers a good bit of the front sight post, as did PEQ2A mounted on top rail when I was on active duty

a lot of us had a way harder time grouping with it mounted that way, and while you have to zero them slightly different, moved them to a side rail and were able to shoot straight again

this is why i use absolute cowitness and am not one of the Cool Kids on The Block

>standing by to get flamed
>>
>>30608567
That's some good ammo. May just be the user then. Keep practicing the fundamentals and like another trip here said, really really get familiar with your trigger. Consistency is king in all things performance wise, whether it's playing a musical instrument or shooting jugs.
>>
>>30608567
1:7" is meant for 62 gr. ammo or heavier and military surplus isn't what you use for tight groups anyway.

Get some Hornady 75 gr. BTHP or Federal GMM 77 gr. SMK ammo, or at least try different loads. Try a match load in 55, 62, 69, 75, and 77 gr. and see what does best in your barrel.

LWRC IC-A5 upper.
I've been researching piston ARs for the past year and from what I found the two most reliable were PWS and this one. The main reason I went with the LWRC is the heavier barrel and because PWS focuses too much on weight reduction over longevity.

Look into true dissipator builds, or dissys in general.

Franklin Armory just said the reason fostech is pushing back their trigger release dates over and over is because they don't have ATF approval yet and probably wont get it because of their faux auto sear. They will probaly have to redesign them to be more like franklin's now. Especially with the trigger pack lawsuit going around.

Just in time for the BFS V3 which is a milspec style replacement. It should drop right into poorly machined 80% lower FCG pockets now and work with 22lr/7.62x39 conversions for cheap magdumps.

>>30609318
A stock on any rifle that is less than 16"
in fixed barrel length is considered an SBR, under the National Firearms Act(NFA)

For example, a 10.5 inch barrel AR with a stock would be an SBR, and thus an NFA Item.

To legally have NFA items, you must file for a tax stamp and pay 200 dollars to the ATF.

This takes months

Just talked to a Fostech employee and shot a few questions at her. Luckily I placed my order early enough that I do expect October delivery. They pushed it back to the 3rd quarter of 2016 for "an issue with tolerances and coatings". Here's what I got:

>What were the issues with the tolerances and coatings?
"I don't have the exact specifications, what I do know is when we received the triggers they were not up to our standards and we are having them sent back so that they can be redone to our specifications."
>So the trigger packs are made out of house by a company other than Fostech?
For the most part, yes. I dunno what that means exactly.
>How did the triggers receive ATF approval? I have yet to see a letter confirming that.
She put me on hold, found it and is sending me a copy of the letter tomorrow.
>What are the shipping date expectations?
Early orders placed in February, March, April can expect a 6 month lead time. Orders placed today are expected to be filled in January of next year.

So I guess that's that, you can expect an ATF letter tomorrow. I'll be working but get it to you when I can.
>>
>>30609601
Lets say you buy a pistol length upper.

No, you don't need a tax stamp.

Its when you put a stock on the lower, but DONT FUCK WITH THE ATF ABOUT IT.

If you are building a pistol, then buy the components needed for a pistol, DONT HAVE "EXTRA" stocks in the same case, for example.

There is such thing as possesive intent.

Yeah its very similar if not identical to a suppressor.

And yeah the braces are cool:^)

You're trying to use the FSB with a free float handguard right?

I gave up on it because installing the FSB on a barrel that doesn't have it factory mounted looks like it needs to be done by a gunsmith according to everything I read.

Did you buy a pre-made M16 upper assembly or mount the FSB yourself?

The only way to do it would be to get a company to do a run of them, but then we'd have to order like at least 100. Would also have to be an FFL to come into possession of that many lowers I'd imagine. Other option is to somehow get some 80% lowers with that rollmark, that would be a lot less hassle.

If they send you the 2013 letter for Hawbaker's patent (the guy who they bought the idea from) they are just stalling you to hold on to your preorder. They need a separate approval for their newly designed trigger.

Every time you change something with a design riding so closely to the edge of being NFA you need to verify and reverify legality with the ATF.

Thoughts on this?:

Camouflage is intended to make an object not stand out. Why don’t we apply the theories of camouflage to our tactical gear?

Black doesn’t occur in nature and it probably shouldn’t occur on guns that we want to blend in
Black guns are black because your can’t see them at night, in the darkness. This is the same reason that the cat burglar wears black. This implies that you are expecting to work under the cover of darkness who does that from a defensive standpoint? Even military typically uses more natural colors.
Black guns scare the sheeple, they see them as offensive weapons. Why would we want to have an AR-15 with scary pictures of spiders or zombie face stabbing flash hiders entered into evidence for a grand jury?

Uh

It's sorta common sense.

Black is one of the worst colors you can use for camo.

Greetings /arg/. Nofuns faggot here wanting to get a nice, but not too expensive AR to start shooting. Not really capable of, or sure of what would go into, building one from a parts kit.

Budget is 1k, and I just want something accurate enough that I can be sure my shit groupings aren't the fault of the rifle in some way. What can you guys recommend for me to get started learning the way of the AR?

Black guns are black because some of the most resilient coatings naturally end up black
>QPQ melonite
>phosphate
>other stuff
Most people will camo their guns if it matters, but a lot of people only bring them to the range so it doesn't.

Selling the Trigger.
