I LOVED his ancient historical insight. It's all I watched of his. I loved his film breakdowns and how he picked apart inaccuracies in hollywood or TV.

but I simply can't stand his material on modern warfare. It's clickbait-y and I can't take him seriously regardless. I refuse to watch any more of it, I just never like it. I have other channels to go to for just the same content that have better people to deliver that sort of it.

There is a Canadian survey of WWII rifle platoon lieutenants that contradicts most of what SLA Marshall claimed.

First, one of their main complaints about their men was not this idea that they would see Germans and not shoot. It was the exact opposite. Their men would open fire as soon as they saw the enemy. In comparison the Germans would hold fire, and would generally wait until the Canadians got close until opening up. Not firing was considered a mark of experienced troops and was valued.

Second, while Marshall claimed that only 15% of men fired period (not just aimed fire, any fire), Canadian officers found ammunition expenditure to be far too high among their men. They would expend it all during an attack, and if they weren't resupplied before a counter attack, would be highly vulnerable.

His other examples in the video don't hold up well either. Yes, a tiny fraction of fighter pilots were responsible for the majority of aircraft kills. But that's because shooting down aircraft is difficult. Strafing ground targets is also killing (in fact more so) but there was no resistant to fighter pilots doing that, or bomber pilots bombing, etc.
