Depending on how much you train with it, it might be a better option for defense than a small safe or lock box in terms of accessibility in a critical situation.

I still wouldn't want one at this point in time , but if I did have young children, I'd look into it as an alternative to a bedside safe or box (which I also do not own at this time because I am alone).

The only time you should ever have one of these is if your wife's son is too fucking retarded to know basic firearm safety and can't be trusted to not shoot himself.

Pretty sure that's the point. This is for either A: your local law requires you to have locks on your gun, or B: that your weapon is in risks of being tampered with in your house hold.
