Maybe like self loading bows or some weird form of over-developed torsion weaponry? Fuck if I know. We'd have had almost 500 years and an industrial revolution (assuming everything else develops the same aside from gunpowder, somehow) to figure out how to kill each other more quickly, I'm sure humans-sans-gunpowder would have worked something out.
