I want to get a 44mag revolver. Right now I'm liking the S&W 629 with a 5" barrel.
Anyone own one and have had any issues with it? Anything better out there right now? Revolvers aren't my go-to gun, I only own 1 (a 586) so any advice is good advice.

Do you really need a 44mag, or is it just a dick waving ego thing?
Why not a .357 mag or 45long colt or 454 casull or 500$&W?

It's a collecting thing. I already own a 357.

hardly spoke to folks around him, didn't have too much to say

>44mag is dick waving
>.454 and .500 are not

How about a S&W M69?
Five shots, slightly smaller build, yet very sturdy.

Thats a nice one too. I'll have to see the price difference.

I love S&W very much but my Dan Wesson is pretty great.
If I had to get a 44 that is not DW I'd get a 629 to match Dirty Harrys gun

44mag is an excellent cartridge m8

If you get a 629, make sure it is a 629-3 or later model designation because that's when they got the "mountain" strength package.
If you are looking for the strongest revolver money can get you to blast asinine 300gr loads at +P pressures out of, look at the Ruger Redhawk/Blackhawk or Dan Wesson 744. I personally prefer the Dan Wesson.

What's the mountain strength package?

It should be noted the gun Dirty Harry uses is a model 29, 6.5" barrel, blued finish.
Cheapest I can find it anywhere is about 900 bucks, which is a shame since I really want one too.
I own a 5 inch 629 classic. No problems with it. It's a 629-6, so it has the endurance package, so it can handle basically any factory loads. I shoot American Eagle 44 mag out of it at the range, and put 305 grain bear loads in when I'm out hiking.

Nice. Thanks for the input.
