The most common 5.56 ammo can't be relied upon to provide satisfactory terminal ballistics at 100yds out of any barrel less than ~12.5" or so.

It really is a shame since short barreled guns are sexy as fuck, but if you actually want a gun that can kill at range, a short barreled 5.56 just isn't ideal.

I've become pretty disillusioned with my 10.5" build for this reason. It kinda makes me sad but it is all a part of the learning process. I'll probably sell both my 16" and my 10.5" guns eventually and build a 14.5 with a pinned muzzle device as well as 18" SPR type rifle.

It really is just a bummer that none of the standard military 5.56 can be trusted out of a 10.5"

Those horses laying down are cute. I used to hate horses on account of being a ranch hand for a couple of years, but I think I'm slowly coming around. Knowing how to ride a horse well would be a valuable skill in any situation where my ARs really become necessary, and furthermore there seems to be a lot of rewarding experience in interacting with such an intelligent domesticated animal.

Brb business buddy has a PVD shop and a proprietary low friction coating that goes on top of any surface treatment.

This is that coating on top of DLC. Unfortunately it doesn't make me better at taking pictures. I'll try to get a better pic in a second. It's crazy how low friction it is even without being polished.

The hammer itself isn't special, so much as specific. It has to be a certain height to defeat the firing pin safety. Also of note, the 416 can be placed in "safe" with the hammer forward. Not spectacularly useful, but an interesting deviation from standard.

It works well, though I had to send my first one in for repair/ replace.
I'm not sure how it happened, but in my second time reloading it (Normally, I wasn't doing anything weird) at round 55/60 loaded it suddenly lost tension.
Once I got it open it seems like the pin that holds to follower to the spring bit broke, which allowed the spring bit to unwind violently breaking itself.
Magpul was nice though, and I don't expect it'll happen again.
tldr-
I'd buy it again if I had a reason to have two.
