I have the cheap LE Surefire in a magpul mount. It works, but it's incapable of using remote switches, has less lumens and isn't held on with a easy to use thumbscrew integrated mount, nor does it have the capability of swapping different heads.

The m600u is lightyears ahead of my sub $100 light, and I can justify the purchase.

First, coverage. Uses the same shape and size as the PASGT. Which means it'll hit the back of your neck and the ear flaps preclude even most low-pro earmuffs.

Second, the suspension. I'm assuming you're not fully retarded and got the pad suspension, which is a hell of a step up from the leather sweatband and webbing suspension (which is still in widespread use in the USMC), but it's inferior in every way to the pads in the ACH/MICH. No gel=no shock absorption (the #1 reason why Marines suffer traumatic head injury 3000% more frequently than Soldiers), they breathe worse because they're backed with plain old styrofoam, and they deteriorate faster because they're backed with plain old styrofoam. Also the chinstrap is proprietary and inferior to even the crappy issued ACH chinstrap much less the aftermarket H-nape or X-nape straps (I recommend X-nape if you're using monoculars as they prevent more side-side motion).

Third, due to the lip of the brim, 3-hole NVG mounts/shrouds do not work with it. You're stuck with the 1-hole traditional mount, which is less secure and heavier than the polymer 3-hole shroud while presenting an easy channel for bullets front dead center of your forehead. While some have been retrofitted with trimmed 3-hole mounts, they're both mounted too high and the structural integrity of the mount is compromised.

Fourth, weight. It's "light weight" only in comparison to its predecessor, the PASGT. It's still significantly heavier than the ACH/MICH2000

I bought a can of brake cleaner and some Rustoleum Dark Forest Green camouflage paint. I'm gonna paint my handguard, upper, and lower with it and leave the stock, grip, and the small odds and ends black.
