I've had blood in every war since 1776 but I opted out out of my academy bid in 2012 because I made the mistake of watching Ron Paul in the debates.
I wanted to fly planes though, and all my ancestors were grunts. Have an uncle that was a pilot in 'Nam with John McCain on the Forrestal and eventually became a Rear Admiral. He told me either go Navy or go nothing and I chose education instead. It's a pretty weird feeling knowing and working with/drinking with lots of combat vets when my two combat stories are being shot twice in hunting accidents.

gps and sonar are the only technologies you listed that you can fully attribute to the military.

jet engines were ignored by the military for a very long time, because the military is institutionally distrustful of new technology. the american space program was entirely dependent on civilian contractors who provided all the necessary technology, most of which was not new technology. the integration of radar into integrated air control was a civilian feat.

by the way, the miniaturization of gps devices for civilian consumption was done by the private economy, the government simply allowed everyone to access signals from satellites which their tax money paid for.
