depends on the nut. my 308 cmr rail is shit for this very reason (with a completely smooth nut). its on there now but the 3 clamp screws have to be torqued EXACTLY RIGHT for it to stay on. how do you know theyre torqued exactly right? the hand guard doesnt come off from recoil/ firing. which it has, a few times.
i think the newer cmrs are improved though.

i think one of the improvements cmr made was having one of the cross bolts fit through a groove in the barrel nut, like the geissele rails.
my cmr has no groove, so its held on by clamp force alone.
anyway, like i said, it depends on the nut. for the most part, you should be ok with a clamp style rail but there are more robust designs out there

AR noob here putting together parts, looking for a completed upper for about $300 to complete the build and everyone keeps suggesting PSA.

Its intended for general purpose stuff; pinking, hog hunting and potentially home defense.

1. Most of their 16" barreled uppers have a 1:7 twist rate and most places I look suggest 1:8, should I just say fuck it and go with 1:7?

I had a Mag Tactical lower for a while, finally got a new one and I'm loving it.

I color filled the roll mark and safety marks but decided I didn't like it. Many toothpicks, q-tips, a toothbrush, and lots of nail polish remover later I finally got it back to black.

I might try grey on the fire position.

The Vltor Emod has the tubes and a compartment like the UBR.

For $370 you're getting a melonited barrel, a free float keymod handguard, as well as you BCG and your CH. Just something to consider.

I would have left the rollmark unfilled, and only filled in the 'safe' and 'fire' and maybe the manufacturers name if you so pleased.

M-LOK definitely looks better, but those Noveske panels are pretty sexy too. I really wanted them but they didn't fit my budget Keymod handguard.

I think I'm going to go with the Geissle M-lok rail that was suggested to me last night, and while I'm sticking with a BCM upper, I think I will go for a PSA Premium BCG to save a little on costs. I can always go for a BCM one later on.

I'm running a PSA prem BCG in my pistol. About 500 rounds so far with no problems.

Personally there are only three BCG I would buy, a cheap basic bitch PSA BCG for like $75 when they are on sale, the PSA NiB BCG that goes on sale for $100 because it is shiny, but still cheap, or a Gucci as fuck Cryptic BCG. Those look nice.
