Just got a Ruger AR 556 in gray. I know it's not as good as an SR. What part should I replace first or modify? Also AR 556 experience thread

Rifles fine. I dislike how they don't use a milspec FSB with bayonet lug and sling swivel but its not worth changing out IMO famalam. Get a sling and get a shit ton of mags since I assume you're new or you wouldn't have bought an AR from Ruger (and you wouldn't think the SR is vastly superior, pistons are heavy and suck unless you're shooting suppressed or full retard).

>What part should I replace first or modify?

Your brain, as in learn about your rifle inside and out. Learn how to zero it. Know what size buffer tube it has in case you want a different stock. Buy a bore guide.

>admits to piston superiority in adaptability with suppressors and in being able to withstand the abuse full auto puts on the system
>pistons suck
so I guess DI excels at being a lightweight range toy then?

>muh heavy
omg, it's an ounce heavier, my emaciated operator arms!
>>
>>30242065
Have had two that needed the takedown pin slots on the upper dremeled to open the gun without a mallet.
>>
>>30242193
Graduation gift out of college. Dad's not very gun knowledgeable, he loves Ruger. I'm not saying the AR is shit compared to the SR, just that it has less features
>>
The only acceptable piston AR is the Sig 516

The AR556 rifles are fine rifles for the most part.

Just shoot it until you learn you don't like something on it then upgrade that.

Thanks

And how many people shoot suppressed or full auto regularly? Not only is it heavier parts compatability also goes out the window. Have fun with your heavy special snowflake.

Ounce equal pounds bro

yfw it's still just as reliable and actually more accurate than x95 at 1/4 of the price
>he's wrong about pistons but he's right that rifle is perfectly fine and you should be enjoying yourself and learning the platform
in syrupland there are Norinco ARs that have like 40k+ rounds thought them without as much as a hickup, AR is just a well thought out platform that's hard to screw up

your first upgrade will probably be the bcg or the trigger, but that should come after a few thousand rounds down range and only if you really feel you want to go in that direction. at that point you'll have enough knowledge of what you like and want, that it's probably either stick with your rifle and enjoy, with maybe minor upgrades or build one from scratch to the specs your peepee desires

Here's my experience with my AR 556 from yesterday
>>
>>30242193
I'm a longtime fun-owner, I've built a few AR's and I purchased a AR-556 because I trust Ruger as a brand and It was awesome for the price point.

>>30242065
I upgraded the grips, I put in a nickel plated bolt and firing pin, I swapped the buffer for an H2 and it's about how I want it. I actually like the front sight too.

Also, I own an SR556 as well and I like it alright. It does weigh a ton though compared to the AR556

If you can save up the scratch for it, a drop-in trigger unit or Gay-sail trigger will be the second most noticeable change you can make.

The first is optics. Make sure to get a one piece mount like a Burris PEPR, then you can throw whatever you want on there. I have a 1-4x on mine, and my girlfriend has a 3-9 on hers. Fixed magnification scopes are also fine.

Not that there's anything mechanically wrong with it though.

S'cool as long as you gonna eat it, rabbit isn't bad meat.
.223 is a bit on the hot side for small game like that though, you'd keep more meat if you stepped down to something like a .22WMR rifle or a proper .410 bore shotgun load
