I live in a real house made of cinder blocks.
Should i be worried about over penetrating and killing my neighbors?
Their house is also cinder blocks
>>
>>30156703
isn't this why shotguns are used ?
>>
>>30156703

Do you live in Africa? Who the fuck builds houses out if cinderblocks?
>>
>>30156731
I think shotguns are used in american homes because the walls are thin
>>30156734
90% of the people in my country do
>>
>>30156758

Again, where is your poor, poor country where people huddle inside poorly built cinderblock abodes?
>>
>>30156703
Unless you're defending yourself with slugs, .308's, or larger I wouldn't worry too much about it, you lucky bastard.
>>
>>30156703
If they are actual cinder blocks, then your house is shit. Assuming you have concrete masonry units, the next question is if they are just mortared or if they are mortared and grouted.
>>
>>30156734
Military housing overseas?
In Okinawa the homes were just concrete

1st world countries that can afford concrete and don't like to have their house blown apart every time that wind blows a little faster.
>>
>>30156703
Just use a shovel for home defense, afterwards you can also use it dig a hole to get rid of the corpse. Plus the chance of accidentally killing your neighbors is very low.
>>
What, if anything, did you infill the blocks with?

Any home of quality in Florida is build out of cinderblocks. But then after the cinderblocks are up the builders put something really fucking neat over it: stucco. Look it up, its super cool dude I promise.

Are you referring to Midwestern homes?

Tornadoes dont give a fuck, man. Brick, cinderblock, wood, what have you.

A window goes, your house is gone. You got 300+ Km/h winds we are talking about here.
>>
>>30156856
Is the entirety of America the Midwest to you?
Fuckin a, in hurricanes in the past I've had trees fall on my house and the only thing that needed replacing was shingles
>>
>>30157007
Everyone shits on the Midwest, as if they build their homes with wood frames as if they are stupid or something.

Nothing survives an EF4/5. Nothing. There is no point. EF3, most well built houses (wood) will stand up to it.

It would be a complete waste to use anything more.
>>

This. What kind of phillistine are you that doesn't have a house made of cheap sheet paper and compressed gypsum?

Fucking poor people, I swear.
>>
>tfw used to live in a cinderblock shack built in 1928.

My current house was built in 1948 and uses a fair number of cinderblocks in it's construction. Mostly lower level/basement/workshop but still there.

Not a bad building material.

We really need a total infrastructure overhaul. It can pretty much be done in one two term presidency. Bridges, interstate, power infrastructure. Go hoover on that shit and it will be fine for another 100 years, you just have to DO IT.

Unfortunately, infrastructure investment is not sexy. It will take nothing less than a disaster.

Or, maybe (and this might be the optimist in me) the powers that be are just waiting for a big ole depression before dropping that hammer.
>>

>>
>>30156703
>Should i be worried about over penetrating and killing my neighbors?

Okay OP, I'll second that other anon and say: not with pistol rounds, no. A 12 gauge loaded with buckshot won't overpen that, either. In fact, check out these dudes who actually went outside and shot some cinderblocks:

http://www.theboxotruth.com/the-buick-o-truth-6-concrete-blocks/

Pistols? No. Shotgun with buckshot? Probably not - the concrete block might get shattered from the blast, but it'll stop the pellets cold. Rifle? That's a different story. If the impact also destroys the round, you're good, but if it shatters the block and carries on through... well...

Best way to tell is, take your firearm of choice out to a range that'll allow it, and shoot some cinderblocks. Set up another few cinderblocks some distance behind them (preferably the distance from your house to your neighbors) or just a big white sheet or something so you can see if the bullet keeps going after smacking through the first block wall.
>>

Shotguns are used in American homes because shotguns are cheap and ubiquitous.

Of the possible styles of firearm that could even conceivably be used for home defense, shotguns with buckshot are some of the worst. 00buck penetrates more layers of [insert any wall material a structure has ever used] than anything else short of magnum rifle rounds, including .308/30-06 ball ammo.

>>
>>30156949

A lot of homes in tornado alley are actually made with an interior core built of heavy brick and shit; so if a tornado hits you only have to rebuild the exterior rooms like the sunroom and shit.
>>
>>30157313
Uh excuse me American, shotguns are used in Ameripoor homes because their walls are made of plaster of Paris and balsa wood, and shotguns are incapable of penetrating solid material
>>
>>30157313

A great many Americans also live in places where they don't need to worry about that. For instance, I'm posting from a country house located in the middle of five acres of open land. Someone comes after me in here, and I don't give a flying fuck how many walls I shoot through - especially because the exterior of the house is solid brick anyways.

If you live in an inner city apartment it's a different story.

The actual frame catches fire last, what will kill you is your house's furniture turning into a giant gasification furnace.

Either way you will die of monoxide or smoke inhalation. your burned out house will look much more aesthetic to neighbors though. Still would need to get demolished due to structural damage.

Nothing like old growth hard wood.
My house was built in 1925 by my g-grandfather, the wood was cut and seasoned on the property.
Where the wood can be seen, the growth rings are twenty to twenty five per inch.
Go to a building supply yard and check the plantation grown wood, six to eight growth rings per inch.
This house has stood for ninty one years, it can last another fifty easy.

To be fair, new building techniques have accounted for that and if you are building yourself you can get slightly higher quality wood for more and if you know where to find a mill that uses slower breeds you can sometimes get up to 20. Expensive though, have a friend that is setting up a stand so he can harvest enough for a home to retire to and pass down to his son.

If only us filthy Americans could have such beautiful homes to live in, like the ones our noguns friends get.

Thankfully they can come to a weapons board and tell us all about the failings of our trailers, god bless Europe

Why does everything have to devolve into americucks vs eurocucks? Didn't you know that the world doesn't revolve around you?
Anyways: The only buildings in hiroshima to survive were either concrete or brick and mortar. ironically designed by white men.

You realize those are custom paint jobs to help blend the building into the skyline right? As if anyone gives that sort of attention to high rises in America.

Get a steel or fiberglass floating house and shoot anyone who gets too close. There, no more over-penetration worries. Also get a bullhorn and record yourself ordering them to change course. Then upload and link here.

Charleston SC.

My Parents house is 200 years old.

The post WW2 cottages in certain neighborhoods are 40's and 50's homes, and prices start at 350,000.

New isn't always better.

Just like pre-lock/post lock Smith and Wessons.

Not true. May 9 2016 tornadoes in S. Oklahoma would've been a EF5 with measured wind speeds, but since nothing was hit that justified EF5 damage, it was recorded an EF3.

By the time one gets damaged enough to be replaced. The whole side could probably use a paint job. Would make everything bright and new looking.

>I think shotguns are used in american homes because the walls are thin
they're cheap, can do a variety of things depending on type of shotshell, and as much as people like to hype up the 68 man gang that'll come into your house, 1-2 shells will take care of most problems unless the home invaders came equipped and specifically to fight.

if you have 6 shells in the weapon, you have a good chance of being able to completely incapacitate the 5 or 6 man gang that's coming for your wife/daughter

I'd love to live in a cinder block steel subframe home that was super open floor plan like pic related but I'm sure they cost $$$$$ even if they are easier to put up.

Would be nice to go for a contrast look inside with all oiled wood furniture and dark leathers.

Oh well. Maybe when I'm old.

Omg this thread. The ignorance.

USA is a big place. House construction varies by geography and materials available.

In North with lots of trees? Wood houses. In area with lots of clay in SE? Brick. In desert or the swamp of FL? Concrete block, which is great for places with high wind and hot temps.

A properly designed house, of any material, can stand as long as you're willing to maintain it. No house in USA is older than 300 BC euros immigrants haven't been here that long.

And they all burn, BC the stuff inside burns, which is how most places catch fire.
