I don't have innawoods, but I have onnariver. The Canadian is public land, but unless you go in the middle of a week day it's generally too busy with people muddin' to shoot anything.

There's plenty of great places to camp and go innawoods if you don't want to take your guns with you. Otherwise private land is your best bet. But if you live north of I-20 and west of Abilene there are lots of farmers that are ok with you shooting on their properties, just don't hit the center pivot or act like a dumbass.

I find this hilarious. There is a reason why locals are dubbed "unicorns." Most people that were born/raised there moved away. Plenty of people moved in for careers, schools, low crime rate, booming housing market, etc. Locals that cant keep up with the rising cost of living move. Wish more people shared your view of Austin and would stay the fuck out. Texas has 1/3 of the top 15 fastest growing cities, lots of inevitable change I admit. My biggest complaint on Austin is the traffic along with having to drive to Lockhart or Leander for a outdoor range, hate Reds and never wanted to pay to shoot indoors.

Not in Tejas friend. Not much gov land to dick around on. If you just want camping I normally go to Dinosaur Valley or Tyler State Parks, not sure what the rules on guns there are though. Recently went hunting in Gus Engeling WMA, had to use a designated camping area but got to hike around and look for small game in a beautiful area.

The rage fees are stupid. 15 bucks to get in, 5 bucks extra during "primetime" (Friday through Sunday), 5 bucks extra to shoot shotguns because one asshat decided to shoot birdshot and wouldn't leave when they asked years ago, 200 dollar nuggets, but it is the only indoor range near me that I know of so I am a little screwed. (I can't shoot outdoors in the heat because I have a skin condition that makes it where I can't sweat in several places on my body and I get overheated really fast and could pass out. I can shoot outdoors in the winter just fine though.)

Elm fork is meh. Is outdoor, has steel targets(pay extra) and they don't allow mosins, Mauser's or most milsurp at all, as well as no Ak's on the 50 yd lanes. Fudd range, but it's the closest range to you that isn't in fort worth or across dfw.

I'm in north dfw. Two indoor ranges and two outdoor within 20 miles. The two indoor are bullet trap in Plano and eagle gun range in lewisville. Bullet trap are ammo shills who don't allow unjacketed ammo bc muh lead dust(OSHA requires indoor ranges have strong enough ventilation for unjacketed ammo). $20 for non members to use lanes, $15 for members. Eagle gun range is a nice new range. $20 for a lane, not shills. Out door ranges are elm fork near 114 and riverside(see above) and Garland public shooting range. Garland is $30 the first time($15 lifetime membership, $15 range fee that includes rifle, pistol and shotgun range use and the ability to leave and come back later that day). Downside is no fmj ammo on rifle range. They did get brand new clay throwers though.

Gunshops that aren't Cabelas, bass pro or gouger mtn are gunmaster in Plano(great shop, pretty good prices and knowledgeable non fudd staff that knows about old guns. Jackson armory in highland park, old dudes run it, but they have milsurp, collectables and nfa items. Gun gear to go in Plano is a bit pricey, but they have a wide variety of consignment guns. Rifle gear in Plano is your run of the mill ar building shop that sells pistols and shotguns too. Decent place, pricey, but good sales sometimes. Runner runner guns in McKinney, another ar building shop but better prices than rifle gear.

That's what I have around me that's worth noting.
