Panzer 4, the one Germany should have stuck with.

E-series would have been tight.

Of course, development should have started in 1941 at the absolute latest.

The Panther was an all around better tank and better suited for taking on T-34s.

Although they really should have stuck with upgraded IVs longer so the V could be better developed.
>>
>>30034176

You mean the tank that struggled to penetrate T-34 / Shermans frontally, aka tanks that it met on a daily basis?

Firepower is a thing, and there's no way you could've fit an 88 in a Pz4 turret

E-series are so cool, there are some people developing their own scale model kits based on the plans. Very good looking stuff

SOMUA S-35

It's a French early war tank. Good armor, good gun, retardedly stupid turret, no radio.

In the very early war it filled a comparable role to the T34, with comparatively great armor and 47mm gun, but terrible 2-man turret, no top hatch because lelfrench (instead they had a mini turret on top that you couldn't open and had to hand-crank, if you wanted to see out of the tank you open up the ENTIRE back of the turret, sit out, and look over the turret, exposing nearly your entire body, because lelfrench.), no radio and dumb deployment made it kinda shit.

Funnilly enough, the Germans used some of them and immediately recognized some stupidity that was easy to correct: they just cut the mini turret off and installed a hatch and a radio.
>>
>>30035008
Also: the turret was the only interchanged part used on the French heavy tank, the B1. Being French, they decided to use the absolute worst aspect of the S-35 on their heavy tank, leading to a lot of the same problems with that tank.
>>
Landkreuzer because it's so damn retarded even though it was just a concept

There's a gif floating around here that has some Fall Gelb footage including an S35 suffering a catastrophic ammo explosion.

If someone would post it, I appreciate
>>
>>30033483
ur mom lol
>>
>>30035109
it was garbage, sorry. It cracked its own hull and had horrible reliability problems
>>
>>30035291
it also had terrible ergonomics, long reload time and miniscule gun drepression

but it also had excellent frontal protection and a gun devestaing against both tanks and infantry as a line breaker to smash a hole of the t-34s it would have dominated all opposition

also has there ever been a heavy tank that didnt have initial reliability problems?

One I used to work on occasionally.

The driver/AD positions are incredibly cramped, most people over 5'11" will have problems closing the hatch and driving the vehicle.
>>
>>30035876

It kind of reminds me of the belly turret gunner on a B-17 when they only let short guys operate the gun.

Even to this day I can't imagine muscular modern day troops fitting in the hatches on a Panther or Sherman.
