Is it really worth the extra $1,000, /k/? I really want one,

Is it really worth the extra $1,000, /k/? I really want one, but I'm finding it hard to justify the price. I just got a bonus but it's still a lot of money.
>>
>>30030422
Just get a USP 45. If it was good enough for Vincent it's good enough for you too.
>>
>>30030427
But Solid Snake had a Mk23. And just the overall cool factor. I wanted to get a new gun with my bonus but this would be the most I've ever spent on a handgun.
>>
>>30030452
See if you can hold or try both out at a range first. See of its worth the extra for the MK 23 after that.
>>
If you can wrap your hands around it, it's extremely accurate with an excellent trigger
>>
>>30030452
You're gay if you don't also get the LAM and suppressor, another $2k at least
>>
>>30030422
Get an FNX45 tactical. Best 45 on the market, fuck that overpriced hunk of 80s shit.

If it has a polymer frame then take your business elsewhere and buy something with an alloy frame that's actually worth those prices.
H&K fucks the civilian market up the ass anyway so you'd be better off.
All you're buying is a plastic frame, gold lettering, and HK on the box & slide.

Poorfag Defense Force already on location, I see.

OP, if you want it, get it. It's the most overbuilt pistol in history and you will never have buyers remorse over the quality.

You can find them on armslist/gunbroker for like $1400 and there's literally no better pistol on the market in that price range. Or any price range really

Tell me something.
What the fuck can the Mark 23 do that a Kahr, Glock, Rock Island, or even a Hi-Point can't? Can it magically make the shooter shoot something better than .45 acp?
Does it absorb every bit of recoil til there's none left?
Can it make the owner a pro marksman over night?
Sorry if I'm sounding like a douche but I don't see the point of this particular firearm.
Used to own one myself and once I got over my "honeymoon" phase & 1000 rounds later, I realized that it's no different than any other polymer framed .45 on the market and that I was now $1500 short in my bank account. To be entirely honest it felt like a heavy, giant plastic toy in my hand with a few bells & whistles that weren't all that special. Maybe if at least the frame wasn't made of polymer I would have at least considered the idea of keeping it for what it could have been worth.
Seriously, gun manufacturers that make their firearm frames out of polymer really need to pass the savings onto the customer. The Mark 23 in my opinion should be about as much $1000... Maybe even less.

But hey! If OP wants one, then he should give it a shot.
>>
>>30031905
Because it looks cool. Retard.
>>
>>30031905
It's literally the most proven reliable handgun ever. That why it's $1500. Tons and tons of R&D went into making it the most reliable, accurate and indestructible pistol ever. Just because something is polymer doesn't mean it should be less. Polymer isn't a money-saving measure, it's for weight. If you're going to knock something, at least admit upfront you're biased about something you knew about the pistol before you bought it.
>>
Interesting fact about the Mark 23: the number "23" designation refers to the number of magazines the test gun #1 fired before its first malfunction. So basically after every 23rd clip the gun needs to be detail stripped and the cosmoline has to be re-done.
>>
>>30031733
>>30031643
Stupid. You can just do a USP in 10mm

Mk23 is for shooting 45 super like it's goddamn .22lr
>>
>>30031979
Want to know how I know you're full of shit?
>>
>>30032002
You can shoot .45 super out of the USP pretty well too
>>
>>30031905
I mostly want it over the USP for the extra cool factor and MGS. Also I just got an excess of money.
>>
>>30031979

Nice. I love gun trivia!
>>
>>30031956
Dude, I'm still an H&K fanboy and in no way am I biased.
Like I said, "...but I don't see the point of this PARTICULAR firearm."
I'm fairly positive at this point in the gun industry production age that polymer is FAR cheaper to produce and manufacture than steel or any other alloys out their on the market. It's literally just pouring melted "refined" plastic into a mold.
>>
>>30032014
If I had the money and time I would have totally loved to find a flashlight/laser module for the rail and go through the legal process of getting a suppressor for it.
Might even go as far as to stalk Kojima and David Hayter until they signed the backdrop of the frame case I'd mount it in.
>>
>>30032058

Unbeknownst to most owners, the Mark 23 accepts both traditional .45acp ammunition as well as small .25 caliber beretta pistols.

Simply place the preferably loaded beretta pistol in the Mark 23's chamber and close the slide. The pistol will automatically fire itself out of the Mark 23's barrel and will simultaneously fire its .25 caliber payload at a combined speed of 4500 feet per second. The resulting wound cavity is nothing short of devastating.

>>

I personally lean towards the USP, but honestly, that's a bit of bias. I think there is fewer things sexier on this planet than a USP Tactical with an Osprey

But honestly, the FNX is a fine pistol as well. However... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdTsFB1ejo8

So I got the Tokyo Marui airshit replica. I've got to say that Tokyo Marui makes great copies of weapons and accessories, and the LAM works great for what it is. It's an excellent quality airshit replica, but it is mediocre when compared to the real thing.

Yes. The Mark 23 is in fact capable of shooting .45 Super stock. It can also shoot fuckawesome .460 Rowland if you get swap the barrel. And if you think an awesome and somewhat uncommon gun like the Mark 23 won't appreciate in value after HK inevitably discontinues them, just because it has a polymer frame, look no further than the VP70.

I'm doing it, I love my USP 45 and won't settle for a glock for a big 10mm hand-cannon. I'm getting the USP Expert .40 and converting it to 10mm.

How much will that cost? Anyone done something like that?
>>
>>30036151
10mm Auto cartridges are too long to fit in a 9mm/.40S&W frame, so such a conversion would probably cost as much as a whole new gun and then some.
>>
>>30036199

I've read that you need a new barrel, new magazines, an 18lb recoil spring, and the ejection port needs to be lengthened. That shouldn't be too crazy, right?
>>
>>30036264
That sounds like what you'd need if you were converting a .45. Again, 10mm Auto cartridges are too long to fit in the magwell of a gun designed for .40S&W.
>>
>>30036326

Well, I can get a .45 instead. I'm coming into a lot of money and want to get my yearly gun purchase a little early. Wish H&K adopted 10mm.
>>
>>30035595

>>
>>30036339
While you're at it, convert it to .460 Rowland instead of 10mm Auto. All you'll need is a new barrel.
>>
>>30030452

>>
>>30036402

>>
>>30030422
OP, I want one as well. But seriously, unless you intend on carrying this thing through many month long survival trips you're better off with a USP or HK45. The Mark 23 is great and it's testing record is impressive but the USP will match it on reliability. If you're for the accuracy then there's USP expert/match variants with longer barrels. They're also as big as a desert eagle, I can post a picture tomorrow of a size comparison if you care.

Also note that the information you find online about the Mark 23 being used by various U.S. special forces isn't accurate anymore, most of them collect dust in the armory in favor of Sigs and even Glocks.

He has a fucking point, dude.
Once you get over the initial WOW factor then it's going to occur to you that you now have another gun that you have to practice with but good luck justifying training with it because in the end it's far too impractical for civilian OC & CC. Hell, even the military doesn't really care much for it's size/weight and probably don't even have it in their inventory any more.
Plus in the end you'll be paying a ton more for bulk .45 acp or super to practice with.
Unfortunately In the end the Mark 23 is nothing but a range queen and gun jewelry in every sense of the word.

it'll be expensive, but unless you feel like dropping $4k+ for a complete package it probably won't be worth it to you. the Mark 23 by itself is a very accurate gun, but it's by such a small margin that it may as well not be. most of the money went into making it largely "bomb-proof" and very difficult to damage or stop working. for a range queen, that's pointless.
>>
>>30031979

I traded up from a usp tactical, there is definitely a difference in quality, trigger, and felt recoil between the two. only shitty thing is it takes special snowflake mags and thread pitch.

Because i haven't tested it would all polymer pistols be that flexible or does FN just go squishy squishy?
>>
>>30044471
I think it's a problem unique to the FNX. I carried a Mk 23 in Iraq and the heat/sun did nothing to the polymer.

VP70 hasn't appreciated; it's went down if you account for inflation.
>>
>>30045781
How come some of you are carrying Berettas and some Mk23s?
>>
>>30043078

what kind of laser is that? I want one
>>
>>30045942
one that only fits certain HKs.

What unit is this? I ask because outside of muh sealz I thought the mark 23 stayed in the armory.
>>
>>30035931
I picked up a VP70 for under $500 last month, in box with two mags.

Usually they're around $6-800 though, but that doesn't exactly make for investment-grade firearm just because they're discontinued HKs.

>Though that could be mostly because people hate them. Trigger is indeed as bad as they say.

10th SFG(A) GSC SIGDET. One of the batts wanted more M9s, so they traded our company for their Mk 23s. And USASOC can get .45 downrange just fine. There's an M11 in there, too.

Are there any USPs with rounded slides?

The p2000 is really similar to a USP compact and it has a 'more rounded' slide than the USP.

Great guns. Improved on the USP in some ways.

Not my pic, P2000 on the right.
>>
>>30047318

Is there any handgun that has a completely rounded slide? Like the opposite of a glock
>>
>>30047625

I guess 1911s are kind of close to a perfect half circle top end. I'd imagine a lot of the browning designs are the same.

Thanks. I like the look of rounded slides a lot more.
